Garnering Support For Doomsday Runner Writeup

Hello all.
Before I get too into this, I must state that my computer is on crack, therefore please excuse any random french accents. No idea how to fix it, so you win this round; technology *as I load the .44 magnum and take aim at the screen*

I am not a fan of a lot of *fluff* threads, or threads without support or research or others that just waste time. Thus, the only reason why I am creating this is to see if anyone would be interested in semi-documented writeup of the project. I am not very good with this technology bit, but if people would appreciate and benefit from it, I would be willing to attempt one.

The project: I am selling my 2003 Tacoma, as I do not work in the northern oil patch anymore and do not need it for commuting. Thus, I will have some spare leafy greeny spendy moneys to finally do to my 4runner what Ive wanted to do for about 7 or 8 years now. I have an 87 4runner, 22RE, W56, and the body is fair (starting to get worse, but nothing fibreglass bondo cant take care of eventually). The plan is to do an SAS (never done one myself, but I am mechanically inclined and can weld and cut, and can probably get a few friends to help), rear lift ((both will be kits from TG)), and for the finale, a 7mge swap. I have been flopping between 7m and 4.3, but I want to stay in the toyota family, as I already have a 67 chevy I am working on in the garage, and not many people do the 7m, so I want to be unique. Plus option for forced induction further on down the line. I am going to look at a solid axle that a guy has for sale after shift at the firehall on friday (heres to hoping showing up in uniform may give a little more bargaining power), but from what I understand, he is parting out a 91 runner he did an SAS and a 7m swap to, so I will also be looking at the motor, trans, tcase, axles, ecu and harness. For poops and laughs I will see how much he wants for the rear axle too, as thatès always good to have as a spare lying around. The runner is on a farm way outta town, so probably wont be able to go up and look at it soon. it sounds like it hasnt been started in a year or so. I know that HGs are problematic on the 7ms, so I am going to replace it while the motor is out before it goes in. While I have done a fair bit of research, I was wondering if anyone can give me any 7m specific pointers to look at when I go to see it (besides milkshake oil, etc etc). If any of you would like to comment, question, criticize, or support, I am open to discussion!

Thank you all for your time, I hope things are good.

Ps, make sure your tree is sufficiently watered; youd be astonished at how quickly a dried tree goes up in flames from a faulty bulb or sap in a bulb socket or someting. Not to be a downer, but you all are my yota brothers and wanna see you all safe.

Some thoughts for ya - first, the Trailgear SAS eliminator sits REALLY high. See 92SR5's build thread for the SAS he just did. Second, besides being cranky with the head gaskets, the 7M can sometimes have oiling issues at low RPM that might make it not the best powerplant for a crawler. There was a thread bouncing around here a couple weeks ago with more details on that, if you can find it.

If you're looking for a unique Toyota swap, check out the 1UZ? That'd be a kick in the pants, for sure.

Im not going for anything too too crazy, or else Id drop the 383 stroker I built for the 67 chevy in there (jokes), but the 1UZ has crossed my mind. I also dont want or need all the power in the world, just to spin some 35s or 37s and have enough for the hills, I dont want to rip apart my driveline (mind you I have been saying that for years and nothing ever has happened). I am familiar with the oiling issue at low rpms, and that is also a factor I am factoring. Thank you for the input about the ifs eliminator sitting really high! I was planning on going for the 5 inch HD springs kit, I figured that in a year or two it would sag down and settle an inch. I will check out his thread, if I can find it, when I get home from work
