I did a search and didn't find much on this issue. On my 98 the gas gauge needle is stuck between 1/4 and 1/2 tank. It has been this way since I got the rig about a month ago. I just use the odometer to tell me when to fill up.
I realize it could be the sending unit in the tank but I'm wondering if there's a common issue with the gauge which would simply require pulling the gauge cluster and doing a little soldering.
I had an 01 F150 that had a common issue with the digital odometer that required pulling the cluster and adding the tiniest bit of solder to one spot where the solder would develop a crack on the circuit board. Pulling the cluster was all the work. The actual soldering took about 2 seconds.
Just wondering if there might be something similar in the 3rd gens before I pull the cluster.
