Gas Mileage from my 2450mi trip

Well last week I had to drive across the country in my new 4runner. Las Vegas to Washington DC area for a total of 2450 miles.

I have an 08 SR5 4x4 V8 4runner and started the drive with about 1400 miles on the clock.

Total trip I burned 123.75 gallons for 19.79 MPG I always did 4-5mph higher than the posted speed limit.

From Vegas to Flagstaff I only got 16.6mpg (going up in the mountains). Then flagstaff to Amarillo TX I got 21.5 mpg (in the flats/downhill and driving at a constant 79mph). The rest of the way was about 19.3 to 19.75 mpg. Not too bad for a med/large SUV that stickers for 14 city and 17 highway.

My intown mileage since new has been a constant 16mpg.

I will update this thread when I get back to Vegas at the end of next week for the return mileage

wb nice to see the good numbers. I am heading out from SF bay area to Denver in July so this is great information on the beginning part of your trip to help me budget accordingly.

Looking forward to seeing the return trip numbers as well. Be sure and reset the numbers on the computer too just to be safe.

With your lift and larger tires you will not get the mileage wb880. When i did my lift and 265/70/17 BFG all terrains I lost about 2 mpg gps corrected. At times I miss the good old days of being stock.

With a lift, MT tires, 8 aux lights and a roof basket I had to wave goodbye to good mileage a long time ago....:cursin:

Oh sorry guys I forgot to metion my lift.

I have OMEs all around for a 2 to 2.5 inch lift, but everything else is stock.

I beleive I have 885 up front and 895 in the rear. Great ride very responsive and just enough bounce for highway driving.


My read out on the dash was with in .4 to .7 under what I was getting. So I guess it under esitmates when you drive all highway.

I hear you on the mileage loss, I was getting a spot on 19.4 stock regardless of city/highway and am now getting 17.2. I am going to budget at 15mpg for my trip just to be safe.
