gas mileage hope

for all those who are losing hope withj gas mileage...i drove from NY to CA with a full load (enough to compress the springs a few inches) and a cargo bag on top and manged to avg 23.9mpg.

I was able to get fairly close to that in my 01 as long as I kept it under 70 and it was relatively flat country on a road trip. Also that was when it still had the OEM Goodyear Wranglers on it.

I remeber once I got 400 miles on one tank, came out to 22.7 MPG. I also remember getting 15.3 once. Oh well it all averages out to 19.3, not too bad.

Now that I bought a camper 15.3 might seem pretty good.

during our bad snowstorm when i was in 4wd for like 2 days straight and in stop and go city traffic, i got a terrible 11.8 mpg.

i couldnt believe it.

yeah 65 is the key. im guessing over the course of the trip it saved me about $120 vs going 75mph. AAA calculated that i should have spent $300 and I only spent 180. Iy payed off to grandma it because I didnt want to getstopped by some hillbilly trooper either.

Don't worry,I'm in the same boat...er,truck too,when it does actually snow here and I have to use 4wd it just kills me how fast the gas guage drops.

17-18 are the average for me... running 70-75mph with 265/75/16's BFGs.

I have a 97 SR5 5speed. I'm getting about 16.5-17.5. Granted I beat on it abit.. normal driving speed 70-80- with somewhat hard acceleration. running 265/75/16 dunlops.

anyone else have a stick 4R?

I've been surprised at the mileage I'm getting with my '99 2.7L 2WD automatic -- 21-23 tank after tank, running a combination of secondary roads and Interstate, where keeping up with the traffic flow means running 80!

I went from Fort Sill, OK to Fort Benning, GA last week (950mi) with everything I owned in my truck and running 265/70/16 BFG AT/KO's and I averaged 19.5 for the whole trip. Not too bad...

My question(s) is(are) just exactly what is the range you guys get on one tank? And why does everyone claim their gas tank is a different size?

Yeah, this is cheating, but I've followed closely behind an 18 wheeler, reset the MPG computer and gotten 30MPG or more as long as I stay right behind the truck.

Of course the mileage computer is optomistic to begin with, but I've done even better going down long grades, but then that's really cheating

I've been averaging 16.5 - 17 mpg for the last three tankfuls with 265/75 tires and a bit of a heavy foot and a bit of stop and go driving.

When I had my '97 5 speed I was averaging almost 18 mpg with stock size tires.
My mom has a '99 Limited automatic and she gets just over 17 with stock tires and she's a bit mellower of a driver than I am.
