Gas mileage mods on a 2008 sport edition v8...

thanks guys! and since i have gotten the bigger tire the computer mpg counter on the 4runner is always about 2mpg lower then what i get, i have an equation to off set the bigger tires and i actually have been getting between 16-18 just depends on how many straight aways without stops i get per gas tank haha
but i have already been driving like a granny too, so i guess my hopeful thinking for better mpg was to hopeful but cant blame me for trying right?

Speaking of gas mileage mods Does anyone know or have experience with fuel vaporizing systems or fuel vaporizers. I've heard about these and tried to research it but I havn't had much luck. I've heard tail of extremely better gas mileage when using these but it doesnt make since to me that theres something out there that would signifigantly save gas and not be used by manufactures. But that's the only thought that comes to mind when i think of a gas mileage mod.

I understand what you're getting at there, but I never heard of it or understand how it would help.

Oh.. wait, just realized my v8 could run 2wd like this and that's what you're saying. But do you need to lock the diff for it to work?

The front differential is still spinning though so there would be minimal saving. If I get that desperate to save gas I will either stay home or get a more economical vehicle.

you guys are pretty lucky to get about 16mpg. im getting around 12.5 13mpg around the city and about 15 highway. ive been driving very conservatively and trying to change my shift points to little over 2000 rpm can coast to red lights

i tell ya its that damn air scoop:tongue:

the biggest thing i saw was moving to 275/70/17 tire on my sport and seeing my gas mileage drop.
ill prob switch to 265s later after i run these in the ground

This would be the fuel/gas vaporizing system idea I was refering to I have not been able to find much other information about it; however, theres a ton of forums about this design and people claiming that it works extremly well i personally know nothing about it I was simply currious if anyone knew or had experience with it.

forced induction is the "easy" way to get better MPG but its not very cheap nor does it sit well with consumers. i give it another few years and see how the success of small displacement turbo charged engines do in SUV's and trucks. .

That is a distinct possibility. The Ford F-150 is much bigger and heavier than my 4Runner, but with the EcoBoost V6 it gets better mileage, even though it has more HP and torque.

That said, I've been reading complaints about it on the F150 forum...

I love my V8, that being said... $100 to fill her up hurts, but I fully expected out when I bought it. I don't mean to be a hard ass, but if you didn't plan on paying a lot for gas when you bought a V8 its on you. Gas prices have not stopped going up for a decade, it sucks, but be thankful you get 16 mpg, I get closer to 11 because of my mods and short distance driving. Its the part of the price you part for owning an SUV. :/

Shuddering on the highway between 55 and 60 mph, particularly during humid or wet conditions, possibly due to condensation build up somewhere. If you go over to the F150 forum, you'll see a sticky thread where about 100 owners have complained about it. Ford has already issued a TSB, but apparently that has only helped for a short period of time. The complaints have been about 2011s and 2012s, so it sounds as though Ford still doesn't have a handle on it.

There have been other issues with the F150 lately, including leaking transmissions (this has been fixed), electric power steering problems, etc.

It really is a bummer. I like them, too. But the reality of my bank account is that I need to put another 100k miles on my '03 before I look for a new truck.

If I am not mistaken, those Ecoboost engines are GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection). I'm sure that's not the only issues they have with those engines if they are GDI.
