Gas price check .....

$2.79 for 87 regular in Atlanta this morning.

I have resorted to filling up the tank when I get anywhere between 1/2 & 3/4 full to take some of the sting out of filling up an empty tank & paying nearly $100.

If they shut the pumps off at $50 here in Atlanta, every gas station woudl be overflowing into the street because people would have to swipe 2 or 3 times to top off. Tons of oversized SUVs & pickup trucks in the dirty dirty!

$2.87 in Newark, DE.

Now Iran is saying that the barrel of oil is actually "below the real value". They are the 4th largest oil producer.

That along with their nuclear "fuel" program is probably not helping gas prices any.

Watch, oil will be the "political football" they use to pressure the UN into allowing them to continue their program.

$2.96/gal of 87 octane and going up here in Poughkeepsie, NY

Edited: Now it's at 3.00/gal. (7:00pm)

Here in CA (SF) we normally pay 10-20% more for gas than the rest of the country. Now we're paying about the same (just under $3 for 87). That's about the only consolation for me, at least.

I also bought a cheap street bike so I can get fit doing my errands around the city and save gas by not using the truck.

It's not the price of oil that makes me sick, or the excess profits of the Exxons and BPs of the world (or that fat cat's massive double chin). No, it's the fact that US refining capacity is STILL too low, even after years of massive oil profits and analysts saying it's a major cause of high summer gas prices for about the last decade.

What will it take for oil companies to invest some of their billions in additional refining capacity?? That's what Congress should be investigating. Oil prices go up and down. Refining capacity has hardly changed in the last decade.

I'm all for letting the market take its course, but at present there is something very hinky about this market that will not reinvest in new capacity despite massive profits and capacity utilization close to 100% in the summer. Smacks of manipulation to me.

OK, rant over!

1.15/L here = Americans stop whining ;) jk

LOL, I was just about to complain about a 6 cent increase over night here in Orange county, CA. And then I saw what you pay in Canada. .... D@mn.

But then again, big increase over a one or two weeks hurts everyone everywhere.

As Dr. Einstein said: "It's All Relative" :D

Just saw $2.859/gal for 87 octane in the far western Chicago suburbs. It went up $0.06 since this morning! Gas tax is minimal in my area; taxes would probably now push that over $3.00 in Chicago/Cook County.

If you pay at the pump, they shut off at $75, but it depends on the credit card (one of them was at $50 for a while). If you pay inside, though, they keep going.

Last weekend, we had a 10-cent discount from a station, so filled up the Camry and the 4Runner....or we tried. We hit the $75 limit before the 4Runner was full. But it was close.

Never thought I see the day when you could spend $75 for gas at one stop unless you were driving an 18-wheeler!!

Here in Eastern PA:

- 87 = $2.899
- 89 = $2.999
- 92 = $3.199

Saw on the news tonight that gas was $4.00/gal in Brooklyn, NY. Station owner says he has small tanks and has to get deliveries more often so his prices change more often.

BTW, those that have a Discover card can sign up for their 5% cash back program for gasoline purchases. For more info check your Discover Card statement or on-line at the Discover Card web site.

over one or two weeks? It jumped 10cents in less than a week.

Aloha. 92 Octane is $3.249, 87 octane is $3.169 at Chevron. Going higher on Monday. And Hawaii is the only State with a wholesale "gas price cap".
