Gas Tank Fueling issue

So to start I was getting a P0440 code, smoke tested, checked valves and hoses and it wouldn't go away. Conclusion was to put on a new EVAP Canister. So I did, now I cannot fill up without the pump popping after a few seconds. I have tried putting the handle at every depth, angle (upside down, sideways, etc), and fueling rate. No matter what the pump gets tripped and I have to ever so slowly manually pump in the fuel. I have been searching and searching. If the diagram I found is correct I installed everything correctly and to boot I am not getting a code anymore. Anyone have an idea?

For what it's worth, mine is similar, and I've never had anything fuel-related apart. I've found that cocking the handle at a bit of an angle and locking the fuel nozzle at a lower setting are the only thing that keeps it from clicking off before it's full.

Ive had this happen without any evap codes too & noticed it happen at certain gas stations more frequently. My understanding is that if the gas pump keeps clicking off, then there's either a bad evap part (canister, VSV, etc), small leak, or something's clogged (hoses).

Did you replace your canister with a new OEM or used?
Do you still have a pending code that hasn't triggered a CEL light yet?

Well after spending the better part of the afternoon and most of the evening under the truck, I double checked everything. Nothing looks kinked or bound. All valves open and closed when power is applied/removed. It is a new Doorman part, I can't afford the OEM (broke college student paying his way).
No pending codes at all. computer is showing all systems go.
This was at two separate gas stations so far. same result and this has never happened before I changed the canister. Not even with the codes.

Just for the purposes of troubleshooting & ruling out variables, here is a link to the fsm about testing the charcoal canister to make sure it is holding pressure & vacuum correctly because I've had the gas pump click off on me occasionally for about 1 year prior to getting the P0440 code. I say this since the only thing that has changed since experiencing the gas pump issue is getting the dorman canister. It's a tedious process having to remove the canister & go through the tests but not difficult & saves money. All you need are some vacuum plugs of varying sizes and 1-2 feet of 1/4" tubing. I used a handheld brake bleeding pump/vacuum but you can just use your lungs to do this.

Scroll down to page 4 & starting with step 7 "check air inlet line" is where the charcoal canister testing begins. If the canister passes all the tests, then at the very least you may have cleared any debris in the airways.

I had this same issue last year. Mines a 2002. Prior to the fueling issue coming up, I had an on and off CEL that pointed towards the charcoal canister needed to be replaced. I didn't worry about it til I could no longer put in more than 1 gallon at a time into my tank. I replaced the charcoal canister and still had the same issue. A couple weeks before that, I had an exhaust leak which ended up pointing a section of the exhaust up in to the cabin. The heat from that ended up melting a section of vent valve that exited the tank. Not sure if that will help at all or if I might have just been an outlier.

I am going to crawl back up under the vehicle and double check that no hoses are colappesed. Last time I checked nothing was, but I may have missed something. Its also really hard to see whats on top of the tank. Could be an issue up there.
However considering this only happened after I swapped the evap can, it seems like they should be directly related. I am about to swap back in the old can and see if it will fill like normal again.
