Gas where it shouldn't be?

So while changing out my vacuum hose with silicone a few weeks ago, one of the hoses I puled off dripped a liquid that smelled like gas. So I put it back the way it was because I had heard your not suppose to use silicone hose one liquid lines.

The other day I asked my buddy who is a mechanic and he said there shouldn't be gas in that line, but since we were trying to figure something else out he did not investigate farther. So here I am asking you guys. What would cause gas to be in this line and can it be fixed?

It is the black hose that is disconnected.

I just puled the hose off, and it says fuel on it. So maybe it is a gas line and my friend was wrong.

I don't know the 3.0, but vacuum hose is not fuel hose. Trace that hard line back, does it go to the fuel tank?

I did a search for a vacuum line diagram and that line is not listed as a vacuum line.

That is definitely a fuel line. The hard line should trace back to the EGR on the other side of the engine. I can only assume is part of the EGR that recaptures fuel and feeds it back in to the engine right there on the fuel rail.

Since it is not coming directly from the fuel pump, it is not pressurized.

Since it plugs into the fuel pressure regulator - it's probably a gas return line.

By the way - mind also had plenty of gas in that hose when I replaced my pressure regulator.

yep, looks like a return line.

The banjo fitting on it (lower right) tells you it's a high pressure fuel line.
That's a clue right there.
