Gasket material between motor and tranny

I was looking under my 2000 and noticed some oil buildup and what looks to be a paper type material that's got oil all over it between motor and auto tranny?

no gasket or sealant between motor and tranny. can you post a pic?

x2, there's no fluid transfer between the engine and transmission therefore no gasket needed there.

+3, that's bare metal to bare metal. There's just air inside the bellhousing (well there should be until a seal starts leaking).

Is the oil tan/brown or pink/red? That will give you an indication of what flavor of PITA you have ahead of you.

Looks like electric tape covered in greese?
It was at the very top were black sheet metal on bellhousing meets motor,right in the crack.
