Gauge lights don't work/possible instrument cluster replacement?

If your started working again, that tells me you had a loose connection somewhere. Hit a bump and made contact again. Its good that yours is working again. I'm a good electrician, I'll figure it out. I'll see you on the trails.

Did you ever figure out what the problem was? I had the exact same thing happen to me today. 2002 4runner. I'm not worried I broke anything. I just have no idea how to diagnois it. I pull the power to the battery and I'm going to let it sit. Hopefully when I come back it will be fixed like it was for Kraze.

LED's are directional, meaning they work only when put in one way. I did mine so long ago and I don't remember if you can put them in 180 degrees out. Since they're on a printed board, if the first one closest to power is in wrong, it will not complete the circuit and the others won't get power either.

The weird part is that they were working and then all of a sudden they weren't. I'm stumped.

Yeah, I haven't been on since thanksgiving. Yes it was a connection at the tail lights and a bit of contacts being fused up. Sprayed a little contact cleaner and it solved it.

So i dont mean to resurrect an old post.. but i went ahead and swapped out my cluster bulbs to LED. P R N D 2 L and the 3 main gauge lights. Im not sure where i went wrong. Maybe i wasnt supposed to use the same bulb #74 for the gauge lights too. But they fit perfectly and thought theyd work fine. Those are supposed to be #194..

Well everything was working, i swapped the lights the night before and made sure everythingw was working. Then took it to work this morning. On the way to work, my MPH and RPM gauges just died. Once i got to work i took everything apart to find the sockets of my 3 gauge lights burned.. and even the flat circle wiring around it was also slightly burned..

Fuse is good. All other gauges and lights work. i have a 99 limited with the "awd" transfer case.

Not sure if this is fixable.. if i do get another cluster are they direct plug and play assuming i get the same exact one for my model? Im not messing with the lights anymore.. If it aint broke, dont fix it! I feel like a crap now.

There are basically 3 different clusters among the 3rd gens
96-98 have the rotary odometer
99-00 have digital but no VSC TRAC lights
01-02 do

Limited ones 99-02 have the center 4x4 light thing
