Gauge Swap 1996 to 1999 Anyone done it?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I could not find anything on doing a swap like this, or if it would even work.

My question is, I am wanting to swap my 1996 gauge cluster for one from a 99 and newer (digital odometer read out) My question is, has anyone attempted a swap like this, or would it work? I tried searching on here, and a couple other forums, as well as google but cannot seem to find any information on it.

I thought about it also and no one has done it I am going to try my hand on it when I find a Tacoma white gauge face to mess with my guessing is make sure you get the gauge and harness plugs then get the fsm for both and wire it in.

I put a 2001 sequoia gauge cluster in my 99 4runner. Got two more gauges out of it .
