Gear info question??

I have tried emailing ECGS a week ago asking for information but have not recieved a reply back. :(

I would like to purchase gears and ARB lockers for my 1997 Surf but I am unsure of what to get exactly.
The gear sets come with Ring and Pinion gears, and ARB lockers come with everything except the compressor, but what else do I need to complete the install of the gears with the lockers? (Shims, nuts, bolts, a cow, a small fire truck, etc..)

Before it is asked, I thought about having ECGS do the complete third member but the weight is too much to ship to me.

I am more than open to other companies if anyone has any other suggestions, I really don't like having to hound a company to take a thousand plus dollars from me if there are other ones that want my business.

Thanks for the help everyone.

At the very least you need Pinion bearings, and shims. Does the ARB come with carrier bearings? If not you should have those too. You should be asking this question of who ever is going to set up your gears, they can help you best.

PS, find another source!

Upon getting gears I would highly suggest getting master install kits for both front and rear. This assures you that all the parts in your diffs are 100% fresh. You or whoever is going to be digging in your diffs so take the chance now to freshen things up.

I would also suggest solid pinion spacers for both front and rear.

ARB RD90 for the front.
ARB RD132 for the rear.

You will need a compressor to put out air for both. I suggest the ARB CKMA12 as it has 2 ports for Air lockers as well as the option for on-board-air (OBA)

The lockers will come with all the required accessories and wiring for a smooth install as will the compressor. They go well together and electrical wiring is pretty much plug and play per the instructional booklets.

FYI..

You have a 7.5" IFS HP (High pinion) in the front and an 8" V6/Turbo rear. Assuming you don't have an elocker, be sure to get parts that are designated for the V6/Turbo diff, not the elocker diff. They're slightly different.

JWaldz and IBallEngineer,
Thanks for your replies, this looks like the info I needed to know.
I will not be doing the install but wanted to make sure I had all the parts and recommended items before hand.

I have the ARB CKMA12 and the ARB hose kit already.

I will look into the Master Install Kit thing.
Thanks for the info on which lockers and the different sizes for the diffs, I do not have the factory elocker so I will steer clear of the gears for that setup.

From some of the things I have read on here I was planning to run 75w90 in the front and center diff and 80w140 in the rear.

Again thanks for the info this way I can move forward with ordering items.

JWaldz,
Using ECGS as an example I only see 8" HP or 8" V6/Turbo/E-Locker, is the 8" HP correct?

No, the 8" HP is a front axle on a different vehicle, I believe an 80 series cruiser. You need the V6/Turbo/E-Locker. With gears it doesn't matter whether you have an elocker or not, but it does with a master install kit.

There is a difference between the 27 and 29 spline pinion in the master install kits. I can't remember which one to use. Call ECGS and they'll be able to tell you.

Ah, the install kit is the one that needs to be for non-elocker.
Excellent thanks again for the help.
