i have a 2000 4runner 4wd auto transmission. running 4xinnovations front plate bumper. dom sliders. 305/70r16 tires. and I'm supercharged.

is it true that a 4 cylinder model of 4runners came with 4.56 gears? if so, can someone shoot me some info?

also, will 4.56 gears be ok or should i do 5.29?

this is my daily driver for now.

What I would do if I were you is get some 4.88 gears. get the rear 3rd member on a 2nd gen 3.0 auto 4runner and slap it on yours and they have 4.88 gears. DO NOT PUT IT IN 4X4 WITH THIS. Drive it around on the highway and see if you want a lower ratio. You can pick them up for about 50$ I hear. a worthwhile investment in my opinion. and then you can sell it on here if you don't like it. better to do this than jump straight into 5.29's.

Thanks! What about the front? Can i use the front 3rd member from the 2nd gen as well?

Nope, the front 3rd is bespoke to the 3rd gen 4Runner and 1st gen Tacoma.

Not all auto 3.0 2nd gens came with 4.88's though. There aren't many factory 4.88 3rds out there at all. They could be found in the 3rd gen pickups as well.

5.29s would be rediculous with on those little tires. I'm running the 4.88s on 35's and it's hell on the HWY. I wouldn't consider 5.29's unless I had 38" tires or bigger.

What is you current gear ratio? I almost wish I had my old 4.30s

Im not sure what ratio i have now. I do not have factory locker option so im guessing i dont even have 4.30. Maybe since some trucks and 4 runners are out there with stock 4.56 gears ill try to find the 3rd members from those to save a few bucks. Or maybe if i can find a factory e-locker with 4.30 ratio and maybe i will be good.

I run 4.88s on 35's with no issue at all. I don't want to go over 85 anyway. But I agree 5.29s would be overkill, especially for a daily driver.

:couch2:

There is a documenent on Sonoran Steels website that you can find via a google search (or I can send it to you tonight) that details every gear ratio based on VIN digits.

I would not change your gears unless it is a last resort.

You will have to change both front and rear together and the benefit my be minimal as you already have a Super Charger and are only running 34s.

Yes some 3rd gen 4runner's had 4.56 ratio.... Mine does!! See my Sig. ONLY 4cyl 5speed E-locked came with them. It was VERY VERY rare.

4.30's?

so ok fellas, with my setup, will 4.30 gear ratios be ok for my setup? that way i can just get factory e-locker and front diffs and be done with it?

ill check to see what my stock ratio is, thanks Brian. even though i have the S/C, seems like i need to regear it and especially with the big tires and the plate bumper and soon to be adding 10k lb winch and savage armor.

im guessing to either go with the 4.30 ratio for the fact if i want factory elocker since most are 430 ratio so its easier, or just go 488 ratio and get ARB air locker. hmmmm

I'd go for the 4.30 E-locker swap man. I just dumped $3k in mine last year with the 4.88s and ARB locker. That's me removing both diffs and dropping them off at my local 4x4 shop. For that much you can find the 4.30s and then get a crawl box for off road if you need it.
