Gen 5 Clock Brightness

At night it's fine but in the daylight my clock on my 2018 TRDORP is too dim to read. I've looked in the OM and can't find any reference to adjusting it. I've also done a search to no avail. The thumbwheel adjustment for dash light brightness seems to have no affect on the clock. Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me? All other displays are easy to read. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Have you spun the thumb wheel all the way to the top, and then clicked it into the uppermost setting? There's a definitive cut off between the top click and the bottom rotation of the wheel's travel. Everything below that top click, the clock is fairly dim, but after clicking to the top setting it goes to daytime brightness.

Yes. That's the first thing I tried. The thumbwheel has no affect on the clock brightness, at least not on mine. I'm really impressed at the brightness of the instrument panel but the digital clock is really lacking in the daylight.

Is this with the headlights in the OFF or DRL position? My clock is bright when in these positions and then dims with the parking or headlights on. If yours is dim with the lights off, then that sounds like an issue.

I wish I could turn my radio screen off but my radio stay on. It's way too bright.

1 - Press and hold mode button.
2 - Adjust to desired brightness using up/down buttons.
3 - Press and hold set button.

Works on my 2014.

Click on the HOME button and the settings Icon in the top right (it looks like a gear icon). Bottom center should be a button that says SCREEN OFF ('18 TRD ORP). It will kick back on if you make some adjustments, but should stay off otherwise.

I definitely can’t have the dimmer knob into the locked position, makes everything too bright in my face at night.

You must leave the headlights on. Mine was prewired for an ambient light sensor so I just got one from eBay for a few bucks and it auto adjusts the brightness for me when the headlights are on.

Haven't had any issues with the brightness of the clock display in my 4Runner, nor have I seen a method to adjust the brightness.
You can turn the radio screen off, and even change the off screen to a image (and the start screen too).

Bingo. I knew I'd feel stupid if I asked but that was it. I generally run the lights on all the time. Going to DRL makes everything good. Thanks KarrotJuice and others.

Yep, the system thinks it is nighttime when the headlights are on and dims the clock. Why it’s not wired to the thumbwheel is a bit of a bummer.
