General AT2 Grabbers (Advice)

Hello everyone! I am not deciding between tires or anything... so I am not looking for the "best tire". I just want to get some honest feedback, advice, reviews of the GENERAL AT2 GRABBER tires!???
I currently use the Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor on my 1999 4Runner. On dry, they are super quiet and seem to work decent. I am having mixed thought about the snow and ice for these. They are doing okay, but not making me feel safe (I know winter tires will do better than any AT tire).

Please give me all the reviews on the General AT2 Grabbers in all conditions! Thanks!! :D

I had a pair on my 4runner until I sold it. I found they were good in the snow, ice and ok in mud but I did put a rock through the tread, so I wouldn't recommend them if you plan on spending much time off road.

I have snow on my driveway for almost half the year, so the tires saw a lot of bad weather, I had no complaints.

They are good tire, however they are not the best ;)
 
I have the General AT2 Grabbers. I would buy them again, they have held up so far.

My advice for finding good reviews is to go to tirerack.com

Choose your desired tire type & size then for each tire you are interested in click on the "surveys" below the description. This is not the same as reviews. Those surveys are often taken from 5000+ different people who have had the tire.

I used this method to choose my last set of all season sport tires "Kumho ecsta 4x" and it turned out great.

I had some on my '87 4runner and i loved them. i had 33x12.5's so maybe mine were just a lot bigger but mine handled great off road. sand, mud, snow, rock... they were great. they also gripped the road wonderfly so i could keep up with little mazdas on sharp corners and roads near the beach.

i was planning on getting them again for my new 4runner but i found a pretty good deal on CL. I would really recommend the Generals though. i put around 50,000 miles on the ones i had and they still had quite a bit of tread left on them. i think they are the best tire in that price range. i got mine from walmart and got lifetime rotate, balance, 60,000 mile warranty, and road side stuff for $820 out the door. that was like $200 less than i could find from anywhere else in that size.
 
I have them and Love them, and unless I some how inherit some extra cash to get a lift and some 33's, I'm going to buy these again. They are amazing in the snow and mud and ice. I've been off road a lot with them and haven't had any problems. I'm not as extreme as some of the guys here but yes, they are a great bang for your buck
 
Had them on my T100 when I was living in Vermont.

Great tire. No complaints at all. Handled ice and snow really well (make sure to check though, as not all of the sizes are snow rates). Sold the truck 55k after buying these tires and they still had some decent tread on them.

Not sure what I'm going to get for the 4runner once it needs new ones, but can't think of a good reason not to give these another go.
 
I just put a set of these on my 4runner about a month ago. Had them in the snow 3 times so far and they do very well. Almost no additional noise over stock. The only downside is that these tires are pretty heavy so I lost at least 1 mpg and this is with the stock 265/70/16 size.
 
Thank you for all of the reviews so far! I am interested in hearing more. So far, I haven't heard anything too bad about them. They are cheaper than the SilentArmors that I run now, and seem to maybe work better. The SilentArmors are very smooth and quiet - but the stopping on ice/snow is horrible. I slide a lot when stopping compared to many other car/tires I have used in the same conditions.
I am interested in hearing more. It is sounding like I should order a set and then sell my SilentArmors.
 
I bought my truck used with these tires on it and they are not very good in the rain. I did a 180 making a left from a dead stop on blacktop. I was driving casually and my rear end gave out completely. I'm not impressed since this is a 183hp truck, not a 483hp truck. I won't go off road much with it so LTX M/S2's are in my near future. BTW, my tires still have over 50% tread left.
 
^^^ that's kind of strange. I've seen adds for these tires that praise how great they are in the rain. I've driven in a lot of rain for the last 3 or 4 years ive had them and never lost control

Yep, I checked the TireRack surveys when I bought the truck. I was as surprised as could be when the truck completely let loose so easily. YMMV

How is that any different from this thread itself? Reports from people that have them and driven on them. Except there is over 1000 of them versus the what 20 here that have replied?
 
i have a set of 285/75/16 on my truck and they are great. my first trip too rausch creek and they out wheeled duratracs the side wall grabbed really well.
 
It's ludicrous to believe a few posts on a single forum thread over surveys of thousands of drivers.

I have these tires and have never had any traction problems. I'm inclined to say: "learn how to drive" but maybe you just had a bad batch ...
 
yeah I'm sensing there may be some sort of Bias"ness" going on. Which is fine. we all have our own tastes. But for the record and the hell of it, I Google searched "Grabber At2's bad wet traction/hydroplane etc" and found nothing.
 
been curious about these, glad this thread popped up.

Does anyone here know how they hold up to the Nitto terra grapplers or BFG TA's? Pretty similar? They seem to be similarly priced for my size.

No bias on my end. I only have 1,500 miles on them and only had that one incident. I love the way they look, they are quiet, and they don't seem to hurt mpg too much since I get 21-22 on the highway.

The bias seems to be from people who have a need to defend a tire from any bad remarks. So Gay
