General Lift Spacer Question

Im putting a spacer lift on my 08 Limited and I think im going with the daystar 2.5/1.5. Before I make the purchase, I just need someone to clarify for me the difference between the spacer that goes inside the strut (and compresses the spring) and the top mounted one. Im trying to find out the Pros and Cons of both.

The one that goes inside with the coil (preload) will firm up the ride. The one that goes on top (topout)) doesn't change the ride. The topout is also easier to install since you don't have to disassemble the strut. Most use the newer style topout spacer.

Check out the whole thread Ark started on lifting. Its one of the ''stickies''at the top of the 4th gen section. Very good thread. I actually asked a similar question recently that Ark answered over there.

for the lift the daystar is going to give your not going to hurt ball joints, shocks or any other suspension componet. I just put the topout DS on mine.. The ones I have heard that said theirs wore out had super high miles on their trucks anyway and it was likely not the result of the lift but normal wear. You will be happy with the DS lift.

parboy: what about a DS lift with the fj bilstein setup, would that provide too much lift and thus hurt the ball joints etc?

the golden rule as I understand it is as long as your at or under 3 in total suspension lift your fine. Any higher your more likely to run into issues with the front end. I also believe any higher and your talking about new Control arms due to travel limitations.
