General questions about making a ground connection

about to start wiring up my bumper driving lights and have heard that i should grind any paint down to metal and use stainless steel screws to make my ground. I understand the metal to metal connection for the ground but why the stainless steel? or does it even matter?

I think it so it doesn't rust. It shouldn't matter if it has a good connection.

Assuming you are grounding outside the truck to the frame, I'm guessing the stainless is so they don't rust

Mainly for rust prevention. One other thing I do with grounds that are on the exterior is after you've screwed/bolted the ground connection tight, spray over it with a good thick coat of Plasti-Dip. Seals the now bare metal from rusting and can be peeled back off if you want to later connect additional ground wires at the same point.

if the connection is inside your vehicle cabin then there is no need for stainless steel unless you live in AL.
