Getting New tires...

I'm thinking about getting new tires. My dad needs new street tires and mine have alot of tread on them so im going to give them to him and buy myself some All terrains.

I was thinking the falken a/t instead of the bf good rich because people have said they are nicer to drive with on the road.

And can i fit 31's on my 4runner, it has the stock 15 inch rim and no lift, i know right now they are like 29s or 29.5 and idk if those are bigger tires than usually on the 4runner they came with it when i bought it, and im not sure if the person put as big of tires as it would fit.

I'm looking at them online on discount tire, if anyone knows a better site let me know! but how do you know what the numbers mean it says like 255 or 245 or something/75-15 or something weird like that and idk how you tell what those numbers mean

And also i was wondering, if you get a bigger tire, Do i need to change the gearing or no? and if i got tires that are a little wider than stock ones does it effect the gas mileage alot?

Let me see if I can help...Most 16, 17,18 inch etc. tires are measured in sizes such as 265/75/16. That equates to about a 32"x10.50x15 inch tire. Make sure you are looking in the 15 inch size you need.
Using your example 255 is the aspect width of the tire, 75 is the height. The larger those numbers the wider/taller the tire will be.
Tire choice is up to you and you would get a ton of opinions on here about which are best. Get what you need and will use them for. For example don't by a Mud Tire if you only drive on the street. The Falken AT gets good reviews.
As far as the 31" tires...they will be a little bigger than the 29's you have and thus will effect your mileage some but probably not a huge amount and you shouldn't have to re-gear (again that is something you should determine by how you use the vehicle). Hope that helps.
 
I assume by your user name that you have a Limited. Is that correct? If so, are you sure they're 15" rims and not 16"? I'm not saying your wrong, I've just never encountered a Limited with 15's on it.
 
Ok to answer a couple questions, You can fit a 31" tall tire stock height as that is the optional size tire when you upgraded to the 16" rims at the dealer (265/70R16=30.92[31"]) If you have 15" rims I encourage you to stay 15" because the tires are so much cheaper. Onlinetires.com: The Easist Way to Shop for Discounted Tires & Wheels can sometimes have cheaper prices. Google tiresize calculator and you can find dimensions. Actually if you click on the "more information" button it usually gives you sizes and specs for that tire to include overall diameter, width etc.
 
i have the falken a/t. they ride great and i have 265/75/16 and they scrub a little at stock hight. they measure 31.5" but with a little triming of the fender you can get rid of the scrub

well tbh i thought i measured the rims to see if they were 15s but i dont know they could be bigger ive never actually checked lol
