Getting That Oil Filter! Mobil One On Sale Until Tomorrow at Costco

Wow! That was an experience.

Nothing like changing the oil and filter on my Land Cruiser.

That 4runner's oil filter is well protected behind that skid plate!

After multiple angles with different woggly socket bits, an oil wrench and several hard twists, the teethed oil filter grips loosened up the filter enough to take it off.

One thing I do like is that the oil drops very straight down from the engine. Less cleanup.

For all of the T4R newbies like me, it's easier for most to just remove the 7/8 skidplate bolts and get the working room to get at the oil filter.

Anyway, Costco is running a deal on a 6-pack case of Mobil One full synthetic for $24.50 IIRC which means you are get a quart for $4.49.

I reach in through the tire well, so maybe you could try that next time... just have to undo one clip on a rubber splash guard and worm the filter out.

Thanks KingWilliams but tried that method unclipping 3 of those plastic pop rivets and just could not get the angle to get in there with wobble sockets and a vice oil wrench.

more time efficient for me just to go for the easy access skidplate bolts for a lot more access. Got big forearms which does not help

I tried but after 15 minutes faster to pull the skidplate. And besides I got to degrease and clean off a half pound of grime too. Cleaned my undercarriage too!

It is not pretty but I just drive a screw drive through it, give it a turn and off it comes. Easy! You're going to throw the filter away anyhow. I messed with my last one before finally saying F it. Off you come.

my skid plate is missing so its easy for me, wheelwell works too, as does the screwdriver, but what helps MOST....DONT OVER TIGHTEN IT!! they just dont need to be gorilla tight. and mine never drips straight down, it gets all over everything.
