Getting the Sport Edition hood on my Limited???

I had a 2002 Sport Edition and always loved the sexy hood scoop. Now I'm a little older and wanted a few of the luxuries so I have a 2005 Limited. But dammit if I don't covet the SE hood still!!!

Anyone bought a replacement OEM hood, swapped with a hood at a junk yard, or ???? If I bought a new one I'd get it painted the factory white. But I would think that the 3-4 years of oxidation wouldn't match a brand new white hood.

Thoughts anyone? Any leads on how I can get my hands on a white 4th Gen hood scooop'd hood without having to buy and paint an OEM hood?

Well you could always just paint the whole car to get rid of the oxidation problem.

You could try junk yards... Maybe one that was totaled from the rear?
The likelihood of someone not wanting their scoop is slim, so they are hard to come by.

I was quoted by reputable local body shops (not maaco) about $100. Take in your fuel door and they will match it starting with the factory color and adjusting to the natural fading of an older vehicle.

You were quoted $100 for painting a hood? I called 5-10 local places and they were all in the $250-400 range.

$100 (labor) to paint just the hood doesn't sound too far off. mainly because 1.) it comes primed and 2.) it's just the hood so there's no masking, etc.

What I want to know though....is if you buy that hood off of eBay, where do you pickup all the extra bits that go in the scoop cutout? Seems like a fair amount of stuff is there to order and assemble. Maybe that's just the way it is.

Oh, and shipping on that hood (at least to SoCal) is a real bee-yatch! $80 for the hood...sweet! $120 to ship....OUCH!

Not everyone likes the hood scoop, especially those who want a "cleaner look". Post a "trade wanted" thread on all the 4Runner forums - white plain 4th gen T4R hood to trade for white 4th gen T4R hood scoop hood. You should get some (hopefully local) takers in a month or two, I would think. Then get out your socket sets and switch hoods.
