getting tires soon and want some advice

Fair enough, man, I hope they work out for you. I'm getting my KM2s for free and would be buying Treadwrights if I had to buy them myself, so I dig trying to make that buck stretch.

'Tank - What's up! Too many coincidences here but, I grew up in Ohio (Columbus), my favorite color is orange, and my best friend is from Hudson. Small world. I really like what you did with your runner. If I had a bigger budget I would copy your build :bravo:

I also have a stock 86 4Runner Dlx and am looking forward to putting better offroad/dirt road tires.
Do you have stock transmission? Larger diameter tires are said to affect acceleration (torque?) Please do tell us how acceleration feels and your MPG's compared to your stock tire size.

RAD - Yes I have a stock manual tranny. The truck feels great with matching wheels and new properly balanced and inflated tires. My only issue is that I am getting some rubbing on tighter corners. Is this normal? I will get back to you on the MPG issue after my next fill-up.

That's odd. Stock suspension? I had the same tires on stock suspension and the never rubbed. Where are they rubbing?

Yea it has stock suspension. I went out to test it and I don't know what I was smokin the other night becuase there was no rubbing. Oh well.

I have about 7k miles on my 31" fallen rocky mountains ATS' and I love them so far. Been through rocks and a lot of sand so far and they have great grip! They also have a 40k mile wear out warranty!

MPG update:
MPG for the setup as it was when I bought it (30" bfg's) - 213 miles/10.3 gallons = 20.7 mpg with 50/50 highway/city
MPG after I got the new 31's all around - 241 miles/12.25 gallons = 19.67 mpg and I drove 80% city on this tank doing Home Depot errands.
So I think the type of driving I was doing had a bigger impact than the tires on my mpg.
Hopefully I can get my exhaust leak fixed and squeeze some more mpg outta this thing.

Keep in mind your speedo and odometer are off now which will throw your numbers off. Not much but a little.

That's true didn't think about that - with the bigger tires I probably did travel a bit farther than the 241 that registered on the odometer.

I replaced the 235 tires on my 86 truck with 31's. The factory tire size is listed as a 225. I noticed a considerable loss of low end power and 5th gear on the highway was not capable on much of a hill. The speedometer was also running 6-7 mph less than actual. From what I've researched changing the factory 4.1 gearing to 4.58 would bring everything back to normal. I've since sold the truck, but plan to mount 31x10.5x15's on my 86 4Runner. Also will be changing the stock gears to 4.88's off a 95 Tacoma. That's a bit steep on gearing, but I can live with the higher rpm's on the highway, for the low end performance off road. I got the rear third member and the front diff for $350. I understand 4.58 gearing came on trucks and Runners with standard 31 inch tires. Only thing holding me up is the thought of adding a rear locker when I install the third member in the rear.
