I appreciate your honesty as well as your confidence. My tool bound logic was clearly a clever remark towards an amatuer who doesn't want to hear experiences based on factual findings from a 10 year, all-I've-ever-known-as-a-human, Mechanic. However, my arguement would be as follows:

Competence would be shown with a display of success IMO. When a person becomes more and more successful (or in this case, continues to be competent) they then have the luxury to afford those super expensive tools. That's why successful businessman drives Mercedes and not Hyundais. Yeah, both get you where need to be, but at some point you have the ability to step your game up if you're successful at what you do. He's a hobbyist. Good for him and all of us that like to tinker. Hands on is a lost art.

These Craftsman users probably flip the extra buck for the expensive truck parts however. Short cutting tools, paying out the ass for an oil filter. It's an interesting conundrum isn't it?
JFYI: I'm an equal opportunity tool user. Whatever gets the job done. My original comment was directed at an individual who did not display the needed knowledge nor skills to play major league. He's playing College ball, I'm about to retire as MVP.

No offense intended in the slightest....but I know 4 Master Mechanics and a few that have zero certification that are actually better mechanics than the guys that are "papered"...and the majority are 20+ year guys. Granted, these examples are purely anecdotal.

The point is: people are individuals. We all excel at some things and suck at others. While I agree that higher priced tools are typically better quality....I also know that most every one of those mechanics I just mentioned have come to the same realization I have: you only have so much money. If the tool will do the job without breaking and costing the mechanic money in lost hours of work, then there is little argument to be made to spend the extra money on that tool rather than putting it towards other tools that give additional capability and money making ability.

I doubt seriously that you disagree.....it *seems* your comment was mostly an attempt to use (what you thought was) a clever catch phrase and now you've repeatedly defended it. It's human nature.....we say something that can be interpreted as incorrect and we try to defend it. I'm not blaming you....nor do I harbor an ounce of ill-will towards you over it.

Your style of banter is a lot more like what I'm used to on Pirate and something that frankly, is sorely lacking around here. Busting balls is funny....but around here, people have pretty thin skin it would seem and I'm not at liberty to dive in to the depths I could while batting the ball back to your side of the net.

Just a side note.....I'm not elitist at all in terms of the way I write. I am VERY careful about the wording I choose and I do so to convey meaning. Sometimes it's more concise to use "big" words......other times, I admit to being overly wordy in hopes of trying to clarify. Regardless, to claim that as hypocrisy is an abuse of the term...but whatever. This is how I write. I don't have to justify or change it for anyone else, nor will I.


Regardless, best wishes to you....I think it quite admirable that you were willing to help someone out on the forum with a brand new baby at home. I wish the baby and momma all the best as well.

If you're a member of this forum and you ever intend to sell anything here....it is relevant. The fact that you're not willing to be forthcoming would *suggest* (not prove), that you know something about the deal wasn't on the up and up.

But whatever....your reputation is the most valuable thing you have. If you don't wish to defend it....that is totally your prerogative.

PS. Are you sure it was considered "settled" with the other party to their satisfaction?

I referenced trash talk thread, post #189 should have a link to it. I also mentioned and quoted you to it so perhaps your vast knowledge of computing and Internet skills will warrant a search including my sweet awesome tag name and something like "trash talk" to establish the necessary treasure. Don't feel bad man. Some of us just take a little longer to get off that hamster wheel. Kids these days am I right?

And yes, it's unlikely to be a full blown Aristocrats Joke, but I'm a gentleman. There's a certain way we civilized folk can poke fun at one another in a creative way.

It's unfortunate you see my humor one-dimensionally. Not only do I have missionary, I also have cowgirl, and the lazy dog. No big deal I did say I've been with upwards of 3 different ladies.

Only thing I really planned to say with regards to you in this thread was this:

The correlation of tool brand to level of proficiency is hardly proof of competency.

And I've made that point. It's not even something you could argue, so I don't see us having need for additional correspondence.
