Gibson catback exhaust for 5th gen! Labor day special starting now! Video attached

Bare minimum. Felt like a finger under and a finger over

Are you getting a rattle on your system? Today was my 3rd attempt at getting this aligned and properly seated adjusting all angles. So far after this attempt it always seats back at the same angle clearence.

I'll give this a couple more days and see how it goes but I'm pretty sure it's gonna be another rattle. I'm pretty unhappy with this setup waited over a month for it and has been an issue since day one of install.

Check the small flap that sits by the spare tire, it may need to be bent a little.
Mine just keeps tweaking and sitting on the crossmember by the axle.

I readjusted mine right before a long trip and it loosened back up. I talked to Jason and he said to tighten those bolts down as much as possible with an impact. I’ve thought about going to a good exhaust shop and getting it welded cause I absolutely hate clamps

i thought about the same thing or getting an additional hanger tacked on the runner to hold in place above the axel :frusty:had i known clamp life would be so frustrating i might have decided other wise :help:

so of ALL who have purchased who has had success with getting this situated right?:bump2:

My first attempt I didn't get the bolts tight enough and after 300 miles it settled on the cross member. So I loosened the system all up, used a pipe wrench and twisted it into the right position. Took the spare off and used a Dewalt that has 1200 ft/lbs and it seems all good. Happy with it right now but admittedly getting the system tightened up.

I have one on my 2015, its awesome!

Nice :)

What's the process on the black tips? Expected durability?

It's sent out to be ceramic coated, then sent back to Gibson, then sent out to the customer. This is why the black takes longer. Gibsons separate tips if you buy them outright go for $95 a piece each typically.

Yes, don't be afraid to wrench down on those bolts, some are, but no worries. Tghten those clamps down as hard as possible, and impact wrench will do it. It's not going to come loose after using an impact. Since this system doesn't require welding, you just gotta make those bolts very tight and this is completely normal for this type of system.

I've sold a crap load of these and that's the trick if you have an issue with something being loose.

Gibson 5th gen Exhaust at Burtman Industries, sale extended again for November!

For those who have had rattling issues from the very rear, I've had similar issues. In my case, it was the very last pipe in the system just kissing the heat shield for the spare tire.

I lowered my spare tire in order to get an impact gun on the clamps which is when it became immediately apparent what was rattling. Theres two half inch bolts that hold the heat shield on. I simply removed it, put it in a vice, and bent it towards the spare tire about 20 degrees. Now I have a good inch clearance from the over axel exhaust tube, and the shield isn't touching the tire either.

No rattles since. My rattle was very intermittent, and only at certain RPM, but it is completely gone now.

Hope that helps someone.

Exactly what I had to do to get it tight, drop the spare and get an impact tool on it. I also took my heat shield off but haven't put it back on yet. Plan is to bend it in the vice and put it back on.

i too have removed the heat shield as the rattle was present with that as well will reshape and re-install

i have removed that clamp re-adjusted, used an impact on it and it still will not sit right, impact tightened, wrench tightened no luck here...and is becoming annoying asf!

I just installed my dual tip exhaust last night, and I think it is a little deeper and more omnipresent than I’d like. But, I will give it some more time, and maybe it was just such a big change from before. I think I’d probably be happier with the supposed lighter tone of the single exhaust.

I am also having some trouble with the pipe clearing the rear axle. I’ve rotated the rear pipe and then clamped down the brackets as hard as I can (and I’m pretty strong), but it seems to still easily rotate down and touch the axle. At idle I think I can hear it rattling against something (presumably the axle).

I will play with it more and attempt more tightening, and maybe this will help. I suppose if the clamps are so tight and the round tubing becomes slightly compressed into an oval, then it won’t slip and turn ;)

I did notice the heat shield by the spare was very close too, but I easily bent that away with just regular pliers.

Initial impression: not thrilled with the sound but kind of as expected, not happy about the rattling but I will try to fix it with some more play. Will update

Oh man, I hope it wont be a problem for me. I am having mine installed this weekend. I really hope this isn't as bad as some make it out to be. Had I read these post prior to me ordering, I might have reconsidered. Fingers crossed my mechanic gets it right the first time. Another thought to those with rattling issues, you could try to wrap that section of the exhaust minimizing the metal contact whilst still providing a heat shield.

I was thinking the same thing, maybe there is a rubber spacer that is heatproof that I can jam in there that will prevent it from contacting the axle. Or some sort of insulated wrap.

Ya those pipes don't move easily but I ended up using a big ass pipe wrench on it and it moved using that. Once that was done I could slide my whole hand under it and tighten down with the impact. First time the heat shield was rattling on it but I took it off, this weekend I will bend it some and re-install it. As others have mentioned, start from the back and assemble forward.
As for the tone, I was surprised by it as well. After 500 miles the tone has completely changed and mellowed out. On a good note I gained mpg's so far with it. More to come on that.

Probably a nit picky question, but I have been thinking of getting an impact wrench since there was a deal on that. Is 450 ft/lbs enough you think to get the brackets tight?

Good question but I have no idea. My buddies is 1200 ft/lbs and it cinched them up nicely.

Gibson Exhaust

Ordered the Gibson catback SS with side exhaust and black tips today. Jason was very helpful in answering my question about possible drone in the cab. Jason assured me there will be no noticeable drone.
