I hear that. Every couple of months I say I am done with Mods. Then after I check this website I order more stuff. My wife thinks I am crazy, my coworkers think I am crazy, but I swear, I just love my 4runner. My friend said it best, "his 4runner will be the last car he buys, he'll drive it when he's 80 and I bet they burry him in it." :rockon:

Ps retightened the exhaust pipe after rotating it up as much as possible, and it seems to clear the rear axle now. I will have for re-examine today after work. I did break out the breaker bar which is 2.5 feet long so I was able to tighten the clamps MUCH tighter and that made a huge difference.
One question - when bolting the front piece to the cat, I didn’t use the springs - should I have?? Does it make a difference? I assume this gives it a bit of flex. I just looked it up now, and looks like I’ll have to go back in to put the springs on. I wish the instructions were a bit better and mentioned using them.

I am relieved. You have saved me extra time by chiming in on how to install. Basically I will tell my mechanic all that you experienced so the process will be smoother. For that, I thank you good Sir! Sorry about the experience, but you saved others from a headache. :hatsoff:

Ok, I got it installed this past weekend. Sorry Jason, I did not order it from you, but I thought I would still post my findings here as it seems to most complete thread for Gibson Catback exhausts.
It was not a difficult as I anticipated. though that may be due to 1. Have the car on a lift 2. having a professional doing the install with me helping. 3. Having the knowledge of previous installations to avoid any issues.
Things to note. We were able to install it within 30 min. We were able to remove the stock exhaust without cutting. We were able to install it without lowering the spare tire. We were able to install it front to back as the instructions indicated. My mechanic did not read the instructions and initially used the 4.7L V8 mid piece instead of the 4.0 so that threw him off as he thought the kit would not fit. I gently pointed out he grabbed the wrong piece. Also we thought we had to reuse the spring bolts, but they do not clear the holes so we just used the provided bolts. All in all it was a painless process.
The most valuable input in my experience is to have a second set of hands when tightening the clamps. What I did was push the exhaust piece over the rear axle and hold it tightly in place as my mechanic torqued everything down. I have a couple of fingers of clearance above and below the axle. No issues there. Then we shook the hell out of the exhaust to see where it was hitting the heat shield. With my bare hands I just bent and pushed the metal out of the way (toward the spare tire) and again shook the hell out of the exhaust until all the rattles were addressed. Needless to say, my exhaust doesn't rattle. We then put our hands on the tailpipe to make sure there were no leaks. All good there.
While the car was on the lift and the stock exhaust was removed I was able to spray some fluid film on the underside and frame holes before installing the new exhaust. Man, that stuff smells awful.
Impressions:
It sounds great. Low and rumbly, but not too loud or obnoxious. I drove with the windows down . in 30 degree temps just to hear the rumble. WOT sounds great especially if you have trees on the roadside to reflect some of the sound back at you. I would say the exhaust is a mix between a traditional 5th gen, an Infinity FX35, a turbo six Porsche Cayenne, and a Nissan Z. It doesn't sound like a V8, but you already knew that. Around town with well mannered driving the sound increase is minimal. when opening it up it does rumble and belch. At highway speeds no real noticeable drone. If anything the droning would be most prevalent above 4,000 RPMs. At 80-85 MPH the tach is below that, so for me not an issue at all. The most important part of this exhaust... It eliminates the exhaust coming in the back window. Finally! no more exhaust/ammonia smell when flooring it onto highways, etc.
All in all it cost me $90 for the install and letting me use his lift for over 40 min on a busy day to spay my undercarriage. I am very happy with the look and sound of the exhaust. Will it add HP, probably not so much. Will it make your 5th gen sound like a V8? No. But it will make the truck sound more trucklike while eliminating exhaust fumes from entering the back window. For that alone it is a worthy and recommended upgrade. Now enjoy some pics...

Sorry if this has been answered already, but yes, the stock exhaust can be removed without cutting. You probably need it on a lift and have an extra set of hands to help hold the weight of the muffler once its removed from the hangers.

Has anyone tried installing side exhaust on a 2010-2012 model? There is a cut out in the bumper where the exhaust runs out the back so I'm curious if it looks bad when you run it out the side and how the fit is.

Yes, after the system breaks in, the tone is just perfect if you ask me. Meaning, it's there, but hardly and disappears on the highway completely. I like to say very similar to a Escalade or Denali factory exhaust. This is prob the quietest system you can get, but still sounds great from outside.

Correct. NOW, I want to apologize that these systems are taking LONGER to make than expected. I really appreciate you guys and you patience with this. I thought some of you might start yelling at me as they are taking longer than I was told. I will update this thread again soon with ETA's. I have not forgotten about anyone who ordered and all of you will of course get your systems!
Well, it will get you more miles to a tank of gas, so that's one good thing. I had a guys wife call in a few days ago for one, and she said, "Why do I need to buy this for my husband, when all it does is make more noise?" Lol, I told her it will help with gas mileage and then she chilled out a little. I'm am curious for you guys testing this out, I'd love to know how many extra miles to a tank highway that gets ya. I'm guessing maybe 25-30 which is cool if it's that.

-Ok so I was getting frustrated trying to make it sit just right. Took it to a professional and 20 minutes later I’m a happy camper, no more rattling.
-My Exhaust has toned down a lot and it’s perfect. It has just enough rumble that you hear but it’s definitely NOT loud and obnoxious. My engine runs smoother and doesn’t have to downshift as much to accelerate which is probably where the MPG gains come from.
-It’s been hard for me to gauge MPG gains due to the start of winter gas around the time I installed mine. I have noticed my average MPGs per the computer is higher than in the past but I don’t have total miles per tank numbers. I’d say I’ve gained about 1-1.5 MPG. I’m curious what the summer gas shows.

Yea, most of the phone calls I get are people asking if it's too loud and I always say NO. It's not at all, and it's usually a guy calling where his wife drives the truck and she's concerned about it being too loud and it never is, not too worry for you guys/girls thinking it might be.And yes, I HATE winter gas! And when it's really cold out, mileage still suffers in general with any engine. 1.5 mpg gain is pretty darn good if that's winter gas. Will be cool to see what you get in the summer!

Yea, drone is a bassy sound that you can hear from some systems. Like a deep resonance at low RPM. A lot of systems can do this, but the Gibson DOES NOT!
I can safely sell this exhaust to someone who's 21, and someone who's 65+ and no one will think it's too loud. That's the good thing about Gibson, the don't make systems that drone. I currently have a guy that has a Magnaflow system which is too loud for him who wants to switch to the Gibson for this reason. Maybe he will chime in here then.
