Glare strip or No glare strip

So i got the day off today and decided to pull the trigger and do this. First thoughts... Its gonna take some getting used to... i dont know how people drive with their whole windshield this dark. I think i like it... lol

I hope its legal, i just went to the shop and told them i wanted one and they didn't ask how big or anything. its well below the AS1 line too. Ill snap some pics of it soon

haha well back in the day you prob remember this was the thing to do except people went really crazy and started putting huge banners that weren't transparent. looked way cool back then but now its just ridiculous. something like this anyway

i had one on mine till my fist hit the window one day... -long story, and no i dont have anger management issues, people just need to stop pissing me off!, anyhow i liked the function of it, but hated the look from the outside, like you said it made it look to ricey or beanerised... and at night (especially in the city) i could never read any street signs ect.

haha wow! how in the world did you manage to punch through your windshield? that must of done more damage to your hand then the window?

but yeah you know what im talking about, I couldn't find any pictures except the one above of the huge ones people would put on their cars.

yeah i didnt punch through it persay, but defiantly shattered it and bulged it out... my hand was sore for a few days, felt about the same as hitting someone square in the jaw/face, maybe a little more(the windshield didnt give as much as a person) it sucked but i got it replaced just for the cost of glass at work.

Ha! Thats funny. Similar thing happened to me on my previous windshield. There was a fly buzzing around the car and it landed on the windshield in front of me. And well... yeah i punched the windshield and it cracked. Unfortunately I didn't get the fly. :boxer:

hahaha. Its a sweet pic huh? I think it shows it pretty well. You can clearly see how much darker the strip is than the rest of the windshield. :bluejump:

so here is what it looks like on my truck, it needs to be washed so i just snapped some quickies.

i take it this is the line is the one it shouldn't be below? lol

pretty nice for blocking the sun. still thinking i gotta crouch down to look under it lol

Looks good from what I can see. That AS1 line is just too short.

I think mine is about double the length of yours. Ha.

thanks man iits always fun getting something new. and this being cheap was even better! I wish i could get my side windows darker it would be so nice! freaking laws! and yeah that line is way too short, no point in even having one of these if you gotta go above that

When you have a vehicle with tint you have to play a cat and mouse game with the cops, always be on the lookout if you see them pull your windows down, etc... I have had %5 tint on a few cars and though it looks great and does the job, it was always a hassle with the fuzz.

The best thing to do if you have the money is get it tinted and use it during the summer, take it off when the days get shorter again. Find a place that will give you a deal on multiple tint jobs.

IIRC, the tint only has to be above that A-S1 line in the middle of the windshield. That's why it slopes down on the sides.

haha yeah man i hear ya. I just want it slightly darker, just so i can match the factory tint so i dunno i still will prob be a target with being all blacked out everything. I will for sure be doing it when i get a lift and all the good stuff! just cause it looks so bad ass when its dark all around like that.

I'd go for it, would look good on your rig, I did it just cause here in PHX with no trees around I couldn't see when i was going home. You can kinda see in the pic, I didn't go down too far.

Mine had it when I got it and I hated it never really liked the look of them, but after 8 months I've grown accustom to it and will definitely redo it when I get a new windshield.

EDIT: I got there and they wouldn't do it because I have a weird rock chip right next to the AS1 line and he said it would make the chip turn into a crack because the sun strip will attract heat because it is so dark.

I was driving towards the sun yesterday evening and it was nice having this. i could totally stare at the sun with the sunglasses on. I could see all kinds of cool crap; solar flares, planets, and spaceships it was sweet!

Carloinafan dude thats sucks you couldn't get it. that was another thing that kinda made me hesitate. Ive had the same windshield in there for 4 years and only have a couple small fixed chips so far (knocking on wood) but i didn't want to buy this thing then have to replace the windshield. i guess its nice its only $20

jared does yours go below the asl 1 line, when i registered my runner in utah they made rip off the strip across the windshield cuz it went way below it, once they passed it on inspection i went down the street and had a new one put on, looks way better with one and helps with the sun a ton, cant wait to see your runnner! cant wait to get back to mine!

haha im kind of a sunglasses nut, i own a few pairs, i usually rock my overly expensive aviators and it works great! I was hoping to accomplish making the sides look darker which i dont think i did haha

yeah i does on the sides there are some pics on the 2nd page. that kinda sucks though. i might take it in to the place i got it done. i guess they do inspections too so i might have a chance in passing

hey guys, just thought id bring this up. I had to get State IM done a little while ago and this glare strip will not pass inspection (in utah anyway) unless you have a sweet old guy that doesn't care then your good. He told me it wouldn't normally pass but he didn't care. Anyway, i know Rip said it was the middle part that had to be above the AS1 line. Just thought id give a heads up to the future glare strippers

Does your windshield have an AS1 line?

I had my windshield replaced a few years ago and it doesn't have an AS1 line. I wonder how they would check it in that case.
