Glove box hidden compartment trick!

I also discovered this compartment a few days ago.

I was wondering if some one look at it for the first time would ever wonder it is a storage area?
I also want to use it to store/hide my gun.

I live in El Paso Tx and run a couple of businesess on the Mexican side of the border. So I go to Juerez(the neighbor city) at least 4 times a week. So far things have gotten crazy the last couple of months down there. Kidnapings of business owners and the drug cartels fighting over the who is going to control the city.
It's sad and crazy.. any way the government is triying to get their act together and they brought inn the Mexican Army and the national police.
The problem with this is that you are not allowed to carry any type of fire arm when you go to Mexico under penalty of imprisonment. And the Army has check points randomly arround town so if they find that I have a gun in my car, I will get in big trouble.
What do you guys think... can I get away with hidig the gun there?

Dude, I dont know about you, but jail in Mexico sounds un-appealing to me. but getting kid napped or killed sounds worse

i think i would have a stash of cash around someplace to bribe my ass out of what ever happens, if I were you
 
i use that space to put my pioneer 6 disc dvd changer in there since i have no room in my dash, after i put the flip out and the deck.

That's the same spot they put the CD changer in GX470's - 4Runner's have it built into the dash, right?
 
when i brought in my 4runner to get the TPMS fixed as agreed when i bought my 4runner i told the tech that the wheel lock key was in the glove box... and he said they were unable to find it and used their own key... anyway the service advisor told me that they were unable to find it, and i showed him, that's right i showed him the "secret" compartment in the glove box!!!

funny story... thought i'd share...

I'd put it up inside the seat cushion- that box is pretty obvious to me not sure why anyone else didn't see it the first five minutes of 4Runner ownership.
 
about that spot

Had no idea that existed until I started reading these forum posts. Now I leave ammo and carry in there when I go to places I can't have it.
 
Sometimes I think I'm the only person who reads owners manuals...

Well hell if everyone read their owner's manual it would ruin the surprise of them finding out all the cool stuff, how to operate and maintain their T4R on this fine forum!!! :D
 
I was hoping to discover a lock or second light or something for this compartment. This thread was misleading. Glad you found it, but it wasn't lost. :D

PS there's a light for the glove box that's probably burned out. It only turns on when you turn your headlights on, so open glove box & turn on lights at night - if no light, replace with a small wedge - i used a #74 LED. It's on the "ceiling" of the glove box, behind a little cage cover.

few months after i bought my truck used from the dealer, i was poking around and found a tupperware full of dog food and an old christmas cd in there :thumb3:
 
I keep all my random crap in the main glove box. In the small "hidden" one I keep only my reg and insurance card. That way if need be I don't have to dig around through random stuff to get to if need be...
 
Vibrations in it unload my spare magazines. (9mm, completely unload) Fixed by lining it with that bumpy rubber stuff they sell for drawers.

I know this post is nearly a decade old but I just want to quote it to reiterate how I believe this may be the dumbest post ever posted to T4R
