Glove box light cage

I’m trying to replace the glove box light on my 2000 SR-5, but I can’t figure out how to open this little cage/cover!

Any tips? Trying not to break it.

That tab at the bottom of the pic just gently push it.it should pop off.

just gently pry down on that tab.

Tried again— nothing. Not sure what I’m doing wrong LOL.

I’m using a nylon spudger tool to push the tab down (away from the center of the cage) (green arrow) while expecting the cage to swing down (red arrow) from the hinge (circled in yellow).

Is that right?

edit. When i say bottom or top i mean (of the pic) You have it marked correctly. you push the tab towards the front of the truck. There is a little tab on the grill. you push down as marked in your pic then release that tab.
The bottom pops out first then the top. I will go out and try it on my truck when I get a break but that's how I remembered.

Did you take the glove box out first? If so, how do you do it? I'm looking to replace my glove box and ashtray bulbs.

I just opened the glove box and stuck my phone under there for the photo. You should be able to change the glove box bulb after simply opening the glove box.

Thank you! It looked like a tight fit but I'll give it a shot. Did you use LED's? From my understanding the glove box light always stays on. So the LED's in theory would last a lot longer?

Thank you! It looked like a tight fit but I'll give it a shot. Did you use LED's? From my understanding the glove box light always stays on. So the LED's in theory would last a lot longer?

IIRC, the glovebox light is on whenever your headlights are on.

Maybe an LED would last longer? I personally don’t like LEDs very much, but that’s just me.

LOL, I think they tend to burn out quicker than most. glove box and ash tray.

Thanks again for the video. That really helped. I was able to get it out using the flat-head end of this little angled screwdriver.

FWIW, it felt like the cage/cover popped opened when I pushed that tab up (towards the sky).
