Glovebox light function

Noticed something that I hadn't realized before. Got in my 4r this morning and opened the glovebox, the vehicle was on but lights were not. It was still a bit dark out and I saw there wasn't any light in the glovebox. Every other vehicle I've owned the glove box light comes on regardless of the position of the light switch. Anyone else find this strange?

Drove my 4th gen for over 10 years before I knew there was a light in there. I always assumed that it wasn't lit. Evidently I always looked in the glove box when the vehicles lights were off!

Yes, headlights need to be on. 4th gen was the same. It drove me crazy when I replaced the bulbs with LED, I thought I wasn't getting the polarity right and uninstalled and reinstalled like 10 times before remembering the headlights needs to be on.

I discovered this a few days ago when I ran to the garage to get something out of the glove box and realized I had no light. I assumed it would turn on when opened. Seems like a dumb oversight IMO.
