The Sherpa 50 actually seems like a good fit for my needs. I just hate to buy products and than realize "I should have just bought the better one" [MENTION=74569]SOcalTRAIL[/MENTION] What you have to say about the Sherpa 50? In comparison to the 350?

I've got several Goal Zero products, including the Yeti (Yeti 1250 Solar Generator Kit | GOAL ZERO). All very good stuff, albeit overpriced for what they actually are in guts. I'd rather pay the premium for something that comes with a warranty, customer service, and has been tested at length than my home-brew solution. Anyway, they are great products. I highly recommend them.

I really like the 350, it gets used for truck camping and 4x4 trips more than anything else. On the other hand, the Sherpa 50 gets more use for other vacations where space is more of a concern. I'm heading to Peru next month... the Sherpa 50 and a Nomad 7 solar panel will be tagging along to charge digital cameras, cell phones, Ipods, Ipads, etc. It is light and tidy enough that it fits in a backpack and you wont notice it.

Upgrade your batteries (or battery, and if you only have one battery, shame on yo' ass!) to AGM deep cycle, and forget the Goal Zero stuff....

But how are you going to carry that with you inside your tent???? Pitch a real big tent? :)

I picked up the Nomad 10 from Goal Zero at Outdoor Retailer Show in Salt Lake City in Jan for a solid discount. The crew from Goal Zero were a great group and really stand by their product. They warrantied a product right there no questions asked. Other vendors were talking about how they were doing burnouts on a solar panel with their cargo can and while the panel looked completely destroyed it still worked. I will purchase more from them. (Especially considering I also get the promotive discount)

Edit: it may have been a cargo van

From the reviews, looks like 350 will be a better choice. Especially since I wont be carrying it around.. I didn't realize that the solar panels were sold separate :ybrick:

Hopefully Costco has som kind of deal on both.

I just checked the code, it seems to be working. You do have to be logged in, I added the 350, it's not in stock right now buy we will be placing another order Monday with GZ and they ship quickly.
 
O yea I forgot to mention the power draw. If I have my fridge hooked up running at about 35 degrees F, straight from the battery via female to male car adapter, I did a test run for 20 hours, and it only drained 1 bar (10%). I've heard people on Expedition Portal saying it could stay on for 4 days before needing a full recharge.
 
I have the light a life lights, which I like quite a bit. My next door neighbour, looks like he has all of their gear. He runs a C pap machine at night and his converter doesn't seem to have a problem. Goal Zero is here at the Expo and I'll look at their booth today.

I was reading some reviews and saw that someone else had some trouble with the inverter. What's the solution?
I'm not sure what you mean by going straight into the battery?
How would I use a conventional power plug?
Oh and can I use a power strip to hook up to the inverter? Or will that draw too much power?

Power strips on inverters should be fine, the strip itself will not pose a significant current draw, just make sure you don't get carried away hooking stuff up to it. I mean like if you're just going to plug in 5 cell phone chargers to it, you should be fine. Obviously don't hook up 5 laptop chargers and a microwave at the same time, lol
