Gobi Ladder - Stronger Gas Spring?

Well, funny you should say. I DONT have any problems with my current struts and haven't to date, though waiting for when the time comes. I have offered to PAUL at Gobi Racks to be a ginny pig and test some heavier duty rear gas struts. I'm thinking there going to be something close to the ones used in a Sequoia.
Paul has taken measurements and is going to email once he has found something. I will keep you posted, though i think its at least 2 weeks out.

Looking at the Ladder Install Instructions, line 10 says:
If you should experience a slow lifting of the rear door life gate with the added weight of the latter a stronger gas spring is available upon request.
Based on your comments from Paul at Gobi I'm assuming that they are now yet "available upon request"

Took the ladder off this am as it made the rear door useless :roadkill:
At this point I will not bug Gobi since you are talking to Paul.
I used my best google skills to try to find a beefier one but no luck

I was supposed to be going down this Friday (when they arrive) but cant because of work. Its going to be next week now. I will update you with pictures once I got them installed.

So, they do have a stronger strut? Any insight on what it is? NP waiting but I can't beleive you would put work ahead of the ladder :banana:

Yep, forgot to mention that. My bad. Paul say's the strut's should be arriving this Thursday/Friday. He took measurements of my current factory struts, three weeks prior. I'm being the ginny pig, so we shall see.
Work actually paid (hours worked) for the truck and ladder/roof rack plus all my other mod's... so got to do what you got to do, however hard it may be

Phillyd2. Sadly, I don't have good news about the struts. Paul tried the ones he ordered and the trunk practically collapsed in comparison to the stock struts. So... He is continuing to research for stronger struts. Time will tell...
The issue is finding ones the same size as the factory struts that can support a heavier load.
Will continue to keep you posted on any news. Looking to be another 1-2 weeks out though.

UPDATE on the NEWLY INSTALLED Heavy Duty Gas Strut's!
Well I have had the "Heavier Duty struts" installed for a little over a week now and have to say they been a HUGE improvement! What's really cool (for me) is I can stand underneath the door and still have an inch of clearance! It’s going to be great for camping! (N.B I'm 6'4 and the truck has a 3" lift)
Those of you who are in Colorado will know we have being having a VERY warm winter with nearly no snow, with this being said I have been waiting to test the struts performance in the colder weather (As the gas inside will contract the colder the temperature, affecting how it opens and closes)
I tried uploading a video, but had little success.
