Gobi Rack and RTT

Gents,


I have Tepui Tent that currently sits on Front Runner Roof Rack. Im thinking of switching to GOBI for various reasons (mostly looks).

Tepui tent has channels with brackets that run along the channel and a bolt going through the bracket and threads sticking out downwards towards the roof rack (3/8").


What did you use to attach your RTT to GOBI rack?

Curious about this as well. I'm considering a Tepui Kuekenam Siberian Camo and want to mount it on my Gobi Stealth rack...suggestions or info?

So you mounted you RTT on the middle two rungs or the very rear rung (edge of roof rack) and the next one closer to the sunroof?

I think I just remembered that my RTT like many other take up all the room anyways lol.

If you haven't ordered the gobi yet, i would recommend having the crossbars deleted and having the mesh floor installed all the way through. I ended up using a set of Thule cross bars that mount to the top of the gobi. This way, when you don't have the rtt on top, you have a full floor for cargo. IMO, having the gobi cross bars limits what you can put on the roof rack.

they can put the cross bars where you want... but this is the standard setup... works fine with the autohome maggiolina model i have. this tent has buckles up front that i can't open all the way because the rack rises up in the front. it's not problem though with this size tent. the longer ones would not work. you could push it back but that would interfere with the tailgate...

Not to highjack the thread but it would be greatly appreciated if you would PM me some photos of your rig with the Front Runner Rack. I have been eyeing this rack for sometime now and it there aren't many photos floating around with this rack installed on a 2014.

Also, If you end up going with a different rack I would be interested in buying yours! I am located in Idaho so pending where you are in Canada you might be close..

The factory hardware from Tepui will work fine with a Gobi Stealth rack. Tepui allows the customers to install the bottom rails in either direction under the tent to allow for side or rear opening setups, as well as to accommodate various roof rack designs. Having a tailgate limits 4Runners to mounting them with a side opening. With a Gobi rack featuring crossbars, you have the option to mount the tent brackets on either the crossbars running side-to-side on the rack, or on the main/outer-most rack rails running lengthwise of the vehicle. Both are sturdy and should work fine, but I opted to mount to the outer-most rails to maximize weight distribution.

It's also recommended to mount the tent such that it opens up passenger-side, in case your campsite is located close to a road, keeping your access point safe from passing traffic. I know you've already installed yours, but another tip for any interested readers is to keep the tent bottom rails an inch or two long on the opposite side of the tent opening, serving as an easy attachment point for an awning or other accessories.

Running a Kukenam on my GOBI stealth with the standard spacing for the cross bars with mot a single problem.

Very good point, however I will be installing this for winter time: Yakima FATCAT 6 Limited Edition (White)

I'm about to order the Gobi Stealth this week. I notice that TrailDuty.com allows you to order it with removable bars. Has anyone used the Gobi removable bars to achieve this? Keeping their RTT attached to the bars, that way you only need to fasten it down on the outer part of the rack, but can utilize the full rack when the tent is off.
