I've seen a few guys on here having removable cross bars and yes that would provide all the benefits that you mentioned.

I have also found these mounting attachments. Look solid!
As per GOBI specs the outer rails are 1" tubes and cross bars are 1-1/8" so depending on where you want the RTT to attach to, one could order various size mounting bracket (keep in mind the female size threaded hole into which bolt would go that would attach to your tent, in case of TEPUI it is 3/8")

Many from my March GB ordered removable bars, and at least a few also participated in my Tepui GB that we just finished.
I don't think anyone has gotten both of the items yet, but I bet there will be a slew of discussion on this very soon.
Personally, I am anxious to see what's the solution. I am wondering if the RTT can be mounted to the removable bars and if they are rated strong enough to hold the RTT and its occupants.
The "AL rails" underneath the RTT runs vertically (along the length of the vehicle), hence it needs to be mounted to something horizontal (with of the vehicle).
Gobi's crossbars, when they are welded on, is super strong and is probably true to its rating (300lb dynamic/800lb static); but I don't know if I can say that for these "removable" ones:

Do you have some pictures of your installation? I do not have my Gobi rack yet, but from some online searches, the outer rails on Gobi seems to be 47" apart, and I am worried that it maybe too wide to mount the Tepui bottom rails to. This would be THE BEST case installation tho. That is, the Tepui bottom rails going horizontal (width of the vehicle), and mounted directly to the vertical side (length of the vehicle) frame of the Gobi, skipping the Gobi crossbar completely.

Good point. I haven't seen a good picture of the removable bars until now. I can always have removable crossbar fabbed that I always keep on the RTT, that supports the weight better. Thick walled square tube that sits on top of the outer rail and u-bolts to it. Hmm. Could be a cheaper option than aftermarket bars.
Have many regretted the fixed crossbars, or are they a good fit for 99% of loads you'd carry up there.

GOBI specs are 45" in width and I think that'd be to the very outer rails. So maybe 44"/44.5" between the outer top rails.
TEPUI Kukenam is 48" in width.
I agree no much room to play with 4-5" but I do have the same question as you.
Ultimately the mounting would be to the outer rails to distribute the weight with 1-1/8" brackets that I provided the link for and Bob is your uncle. This would allow for tent to slide as much to the back as possible without interfering with tailgate/ladder and possible free up some space on the front for rotopax water/other attachments.
Just need my Gobi to get in my hands. Or maybe I will go measure [MENTION=117606]BeachRunnerSD[/MENTION] 's Gobi rack that he got last week.
But knowing that the Tepui cross bar can go vertical or horizontal was a very good reference point.
Personally, I would prefer the U-bolt method than to use the Axia bracket as that will add height.

You won't be able to mount any, if not most RTTs to the side rails of the Gobi. I would have done that if it were possible.
On another note, it looks like the removable cross bars from Gobi won't be strong enough to support the weight of the RTT AND occupants. You're relying on the strength of 4 bolts at all corners to support that. It looks like they 'pinch' the bar in between the 'clamps' for the cross bars. I'd be concerned with those ends collapsing.

That's exactly how I mount mine. It's currently off my truck, but I'll be putting it back up in a few days. There is more than enough room, you can easily mount the tent on either the Gobi crossbars or main bars. When you get your Tepui you will first decide how you want to mount the tent rails onto the bottom of the tent. Tepui does this to allow for side of vehicle or rear of vehicle opening, but it likewise enables you to choose length or width-wise roof crossbar attachments. This may sound confusing but when you see it, it'll make sense. More likely than not you'll have so much room with the tent rails that you'll need to cut them down, I did. The included hardware is perfectly sufficient for mounting, but if you want to upgrade the brackets go for it.

OK. Dug one up from Memorial day, show's the mounting hardware. I left the tent rails long on this side cause I plan on putting an awning up at some point down the road and this makes it easier, per Tepui's experience. They also prove to function nicely as handles when carrying the tent. This is all factory hardware included with the tent. Out of frame are 4x Rotopax mounted to the Gobi rack behind the tent. Hope this clears up some questions.

Well, I just ordered the rack with adjustable crossbars. I'll figure something out for RTT mounting. I think the benefit of removing the crossbars for every day use will be most beneficial.
I thought [MENTION=96425]JSparky[/MENTION] already gave us all the info we need. My conclusion is, get removable crossbars, full mesh or full mesh up to sunroof opening, mount Tepui to side (vertical gobi frame), done!
Oh.... all of the above, for me, are coming either next week or the week after next. :becky:

I ordered those AXIA brackets for 1.0" outer rails so that's what ill mount to. In worst case it doesn't work I also got Yakima wraparound coming that will work on cross bars (only $10 so I didn't care).
Either way, GOBI is in the garage, TEPUI is in the garage, brackets are coming. time to get crackin'!!!
