seeing as how i'm going to have to order this badboy to washington then pick it up.

do you guys think i can throw the gobi stealth rack into the 4runner with the seats down and out of the cardboard box?

i'll be bringing a few ratchet straps incase but it'd be awesome if i could shove it into the back of the 4runner with the seats folded flat.

edit:

just measured,

the width shouldnt be a problem but the length is a bit long, hopefully putting it in on an angle or something will work. or if possible heaving the back stick out with the rear window down.

???? Why stick it in the back? It's a pretty quick install and the factory bars are a LOT easier to fit in the back if you want to bring them home. With 2 people you can have it on the roof in about an hour.

Why are you picking it up in Washington and not have it shipped to your house?

i live in canada so i'm having it shipped to a mail receiving service in washington. apparently the shipping cost to canada will cost me 600-800 so i figured since its free shipping to the lower 48 it'd make more sense for me to make the drive down and pick it up. i would LOVE to have it shipped to my door in BC and wouldnt mind paying up to 200 to get it shipped to my door (baja quoted me 200 shipped to my door) but the gobi costs alot more.

Strap it to your factory roof rack and take it home.

2 words- Ratchet. Strap.

think 4s enough?

You really want to take this NEW rack across the line? $$$$

Install it :wink2:

Edit: No one will ask about the factory roof rack in peices inside the truck but a new one straped the the roof ???
The rack is almost as long as the roof, it doesn't fit inside I don't think.

that rack is made in the USA so there should be no duty on it because we have a free trade agreement with you fellas down south :) i declare everything at the border so i don't get flagged for future purchases :D

i'm thinkin either i can grab one of the dudes inside the mailing place to help me throw the thing up top or take a buddy with me when i head down to pick it up.

width wise it should fit so i was thinkin maybe i can put it in on an angle and have the rest stick out the rear window.

kinda crazy how baja can ship it from mexico for 200 but it costs gobi 600-800 to ship it?

if you ever drive up to bc you know where to find me :D

there is a ton of trails up here that people can drive around for months on end.

hoping to do a 1 week excursion once i get the gobi and a few jerry cans ready :D

really anxious about ordering the gobi stealth lol.

Bring a buddy... install it. By the time you get it maneuvered inside and sticking out the back you will have scrapped the inside of the truck, scraped the rack.. and probably wasted the same time it would take to simply bolt the thing to the roof.

You need a monkey wrench, socket wrench, magnet on a stick (in case you drop the nut-post) and a tube of silicone. having a buddy there to help you lift it onto the roof is a major plus.

I guess I need to write my install up for my build thread.. been slacking off on adding the one for the roof.

Okki

My original plan was to take everything out of the box, strap the gobi to the roof rails using ratchet straps and heavy duty zip ties then throw the ladder and all the hardware into the trunk area :D

I honestly just don't get it. :bash:

Grab the whole box- throw it on the roof. Strap-tie front/middle/back and drive home. Not trying to be a d!ck, but damn!

It comes in a box rugged enough to take the abuse from shipping. If it rains and gets wet, who cares? It's a rack that will spend it's entire useful life on your roof. What am I missing here?

How are you doin' antman?

Slow night.

He's just looking for a plan for his new Gobi Rack pick up.
I would .......take my old rack off at home .

Get to the delivery place with a friend /tube of rtv/tools and do the install in the parking lot as it's not hard.

Cut the box up and throw in the dumpster and drive home with a big smile waving at the Canadien border guards.

@jca21.....How hard is it for you to cross over into the United States now that the security is tighter? Just a passport?

Off topic but funny Canada border story, not at the time of course.Summer before last we were back east on VC and my daughters wanted to go see Niagra Falls as they've never been and it's only a 3 hour drive from my sisters lake house in Northern Pa..

We go driving up there and not really thinking about it too much drive over to the Canadian side to see the falls better and do the boat ride touristy things. I've been to Canada a bunch of times and sure enough,as always before, the Canadian border guards don't even ask questions or ask for credentials and just wave you right thru.

Stayed overnight and the next day coming up to the border check point back into the states and in line , it dawned on me in one of those "oh sh*t" moments.:bash: My daughters being 12 and 14 at the time had no type of photo ID or any ID at all, for that matter, on them.Nada!

They had me park the truck , searched it, took me into a room where they checked me out and asked questions like why don't you have suitcases ,being all the way from Texas .Other female guards led my daughters off all scared and crying and interrogated them for almost 2 hrs until they could get a hold of their mother, my ex, on the phone before they let us thankfully come back over with just a warning.:trophy:

Went and got their passports as soon as we got back home.:trophy:
But the other day ,thinking about going to Costa Rica with the guys at work for a weekend noticed that mine expired in Dec. of last year.:nono:
