Gobi vs Bajarack shipping time?

For what it's worth, I ordered my Gobi Rack on April 4th, 2017 and I just found out that it shipped this week (July 24th). There's no way to track it but I'm told I'd get a call from the local freight company when it arrives in town.
The Gobi ordering process was okay, but they don't send you any updates of any sort. You have to email them and ask. They usually respond within a day or two, but the responses are fairly vague.

Crossing my fingers because my order was April 3rd. I got an e-mail last week after reaching out to them saying that it would ship this week. Based on other people's experiences with Gobi, the promised ship dates often don't hold true. Hoping that isn't the case for either of us.
Personally, I like the very low basket style of the Gobi just a tad more than the flat rack of the Baja, mostly for the utility purposes of having sides.
That being said, I didn't care to deal with Gobi's $hit service so I went with Baja which will work perfectly fine for my needs. Mine should arrive in the next week or two.
I don't see many (if any) people disagreeing that the Gobi isn't the best quality, it's just a matter of whether you're willing to just forget you ordered it and have no expectations of customer service. While Baja certainly isn't a pillar of customer service either, they are certainly much better.

Boy, when a company even admits that the fulfillment of an order 16 weeks later is "Your Lucky Day"...
So I just spoke with Joe at Outgearsolutions... bad news is that he is no longer taking orders for roof racks as he is focusing on the rock slider project. And yes, Instantgram is the sole means of communication for the business so like me you'd have to start an account.
Good news, he does not accept long delays in his production (even though he is a one man shop with some help) so if you are in the market for sliders this is going to be an option for all of us. Someday, he may return to roof racks.

I was in for Baja but having the sides, adjustable bars and a 40" light setup I just had to pull the trigger on GOBI and wait in misery. I placed the order online Tuesday, had to wait until GOBI called me back to confirm the order and actually place it 2 days later. She said 12-14 weeks which sucks but it is what it is. I shoudl have ordered in April like other here did. I could get "rush" service and have it in 4 weeks for only $750! yeah right. I will let you know how it goes in 4 months once it arrives - it'll be worth it. Patience is a virute, at least that is what I have been told.
Ordering in April would have helped but only in that you ordered earlier. I ordered in april, was quoted 8-12 and we are over that. I think I have line of sight to a rack though, finally. I'd plan on longer than 14 weeks.
Did they really suggest you could jump over other customers in line for $750? That seems low given that they aren't even meeting quoted lead times. They should catch up with the backlog first, then charge for rush. Do they refund the $750 if they can't make the 4 weeks either?

Last month when I had my order in they offered "rush" delivery for $500 (and did not indicate a guarantee on that either) but yes, the implication was that if I ponied up the extra cash I would pretty much get the next one off the line. $1595 already seemed steep but $2095 [and now $2370!!!] for a roof rack is getting a bit extreme.

Just finalized my order with Gobi today. Came pretty close to purchasing the Baja rack, but like the look and options better with Gobi. I have ordered other items from them in the past so I know the quality of their products plus they are local to me.

So they have the capability of increased production rate, but only if you pay hundreds more? I have this feeling that they don't rush yours but rather someone else gets bumped down the list to wait even longer.
Does anyone representing Gobi post on the boards? The lack of customer service and long wait times in addition to reading something like this has me almost completely writing them off for anything. Unbelievable. Amazing that some of you are so willing to hand over hard earned money for their products and be treated this way.
Unfortunately, for the style they offer, they essentially have a monopoly. Like getting boned by Comcast. Not much choice when they meet the exact criteria you're looking for.

I ordered knowing full well that I was going to have to wait 8-16 weeks. The factory crossbars are serving me well enough for now, so I am in no rush to get it. I want a quality product, and liked the looks of the Gobi the best, so wait I will.
That's why I said offering the service is low when you are already behind. In that case, I don't see how they aren't bumping customers where they've arleady failed to meet their original commitment only to make a few extra bucks.
Are you sure that that wasn't just expediting shipping, not expedited manufacturing?
Everyone who has the rack has said it is great, so I hope it is worth it. I'm not a fan of most of the alternatives. I did contemplate making my own but thought it would take too long. :doh:

When I spoke with them it was neither expedited shipping OR manufacturing.
It was $500 to cut in line.
In fact, I believe the exact words were, "Well sir, if you do have a planned trip and cannot wait the 12-16 weeks, we will send you one right away for an additional $500"
Nothing implied about ramping up production, adding employees, multiplying raw material orders, training volunteer boy scouts on fabrication skills, alchemy...nothing. She basically stopped short of saying "Give me $500 dollars and I will put your address on that rack that is ready to ship out tomorrow and move the other guy back a spot, god knows he has been waiting long enough anyway!"
And to imagine, this is just the product line for 5th Gen T4R's I wonder what it is like for all the other rigs out there. I would kind of like to knock on there door when I go to Denver next month...just to see.
Wow.. this is on a whole new level..
If you want to be more unimpressed by them, check out their group buy thread.. People waiting 6+ months, while others ordering after the group by ended, are receiving racks faster.. Such a joke.
