Gobi vs Bajarack shipping time?

My wife and I were talking about rtt’s over lunch and she asked when I was expecting the Gobi rack...I told her it was a 16-20 week wait. Her response, “that’s half a pregnancy.”

Thats funny. The Gobi rack would for sure be cheaper than a kid. And for the first 10 years, far more practical too .

I'm furious with Gobi at this point. I've been nothing but patient but now I'm done.

Not only was their customer service horrible with returning my phone calls with meaningful information, but my only request was to have the rack this week so I could install it this weekend for a trip next week. Leslie told me 6 weeks ago that wouldn't be a problem.

Today after a lengthy hold, I find out my rack isn't even done and the earliest they can get it to the shipper is next week.

I don't know how this business still exists, yet here I am another moron plunking down my money up front to only receive zero updates and a ridiculously late product.

For those reading this on the fence, spend your money elsewhere.

I ordered a Baja rack first week of September. Confirmed the 6 week lead time.
I am on week 10 of waiting. I emailed and asked for an eta last Monday. They said they would check and get back to me. Haven't heard anything.

Failed to get any updates except that a shipping company called and said they had it at their warehouse and would deliver to my house.
I specifically told the salesman at Ok4wd that it would have to be delivered to my work which is a commercial address. Apparently they didn't relay that so I will have to go pick it up. But at least I'll have it

OK I am out! I am in my 19th week waiting for my Gobi and my excitement has waned. Not to mention the missed opportunity of using it this last summer. I called TD and they said they would cancel my order and refund my money. I will see if they come through.

PS - I did get my Gobi Hi-Lift Mounts if someone wants them for $130 + free shipping.


I am going to check out the new SSO aluminum roof rack coming out next week. Lighter and sleeker looking IMO.

Hope I don't have regrets cancelling this far in :-/

Seems about right, mine took 21.5 weeks from order to in hands. I know Gobi also had a large group buy order this year from the T4R forums not to mention their regular business orders from all different types of vehicle owners. They are swamped daily with calls from people who want to updates on their orders hour by hour. From what I can tell this rack is impressive and when you are producing a top notch quality product you are going to be in high demand. It does suck about not getting the rack quickly but its a quality product and i'd rather have a nice quality rack with the wait than some thing thrown together quickly to make a buck.

It does suck about not getting the rack quickly but its a quality product and i'd rather have a nice quality rack with the wait than some thing thrown together quickly to make a buck.

I think they would make a lot of people happy if they were just realistic with their lead times. I bought July 5 and was told they are caught up with the big group buy order and it would be 8 weeks, worst case 12. In my mind I said I would wait until week 16. Now week 19...

Honestly speaking, I knew going in that I wanted the Gobi rack and would not settle for anything else. Given that, I also knew about the wait times so I set my expectations low and decided to order and just wait. Sure in this age of Amazon and instant gratification, it can be hard. Regarding their customer service, yeah I heard it sucks too. I just decided to order and wait to be surprised around the 5 month mark. Yeah maybe it's harder for some than others....but for what it's worth, I'll have what I wanted all along. I've learned not to settle...because in the end, you'll regret it. That's just my two cents. For those who've waited this long (19~ weeks), you've waited this long! What's another few weeks?

If you look at my history I started a thread on my experience with both.

I LOVE my baja flat mesh utility rack. It is superb in my opinion. Customer service was phenomenal.

My wait time was 1 week, but because it turns out someone had to cancel their order, which was exactly the one I wanted. But still, they were awesome and it is awesome.

They even responded with an R&D question. I sent in a proposal to add a back basket fence guard for the back. They said they were going to look into it as an accessory. Amazing.

Screw Gobi. The rack isn't "that great" in my opinion, especially the attitude they give. Where I come from, we tell people like that to go f*(k themselves.

I feel for you, it really sucks that you got put in that situation. If we lived near each other, I’d sell you my rack and wait for another. On the bright side is close to being there just not in time. Trust me you’ll be happy once you actually have it in your hands.

My SR5 barely fits in my work garage right now, and with the roof rack it would be a total no-go. Plus I keep my truck outside throughout the northeast winters, and I'm just not sure if I'm ready to expose such an expensive rack to all the elements up here.

Anyway if you are interested, I would likely (need to double check) be able to have it shipped directly to you since it's coming from straight from Gobi.

Price is $1800 for those who are interested:

I ordered through Trail Duty and I didn't pay up front, so I'm fairly certain I could easily have it transferred to someone else, or pay for it and have it shipped to someone else. Easy!

If you ordered August 4, that's over 3 months, not 4 FYI. So that's still within "12 to 16 weeks."

I ordered mine at the beginning of July, so I'm sitting on 19+ weeks now.

For you guys that ordered the gobi, is it really worth the wait? I love the looks of them compared to the other racks but that wait scares me. Almost half a year for delivery. That’s crazy.
