Now that it will suddenly start when you turn the key as opose to it not starting at all before... now the key wont turn in the ignition lock.

Its not a key issue... tested it with 3 different keys (of whice one is an original). Its not a steering issue as the wheel is not locked. It seems maybe the lock itself is the issue.

The big question is: How the F*CK do you remove the ignition key lock when you cant turn the key?!?!? Can I just break it off and be done with it?

Jesus... I swear this truck is turning into a money pit!

I know how you feel I had that problem also!
Hear is what you do.
Take all the panels off below your steering colum. You will see the key lock assemly that extends into the steering collum. There are two headless screws with a collar that goes around your steering collum holding that assembly to the collum. Take a PRICK PUNCH and a hammer. Using the prick punch, put it up against the slanted head of the screw, and tap on it with the hammer counter clock wise to get it to move. When the first one gets loose then go to the other. They then should unscrew right out. Carefully remove the whole ignition assembly, and all the electrical wiring to it. I don't know what year you have but, you should be able to get that whole assembly at a salvage yard. I rekeyed my whole truck from a salvage vehicle. Now do not reuse the slanted screws, go to a hardware store, and buy two metric allen head screws of course with the correct thread to match the new lock assebly. Bring one of the old screws with you to match it up. This will save you a headache when you are reinstalling the assy... If you don't have a prick punch, use a "nail set", and sharpen one side, so it looks like a slant. You might get lucky and just get away with the nail set(without sharpening it)or regular punch. Don't get frustrated, take your time and it will all come together, or in your case "apart" .

However, only do this if you can't turn your truck ignition to the accessory position. If you can get it that far there is a little whole with a button you can push that will allow you to slide the ignition switch right out. It is on the side of the of the ingition housing.

Thanks... I was wondering how in the hell was I gonna get that stupid collar off the steering pole.

On replacing it though... I think I am going to go keyless. Push button start I think.

eh...

Tried to get a push start button for the 4Runner and it turns out that I can't because of legal issue. Apperently, you cant have such a system on a vehicle that will be used on the highway. Anyone know anything about this? Not that this is gonna stop me but just wondering if this was true or not.

Over on Spyderchat(MR2spyder) they have done this using the HondaS2000 push button and this has never come up.

Bah I say go for it.
