Great Post!!! ive found that within the installs that ive done this is pretty accurate. Except for I would Note that almost anything in yellow COULD be in the red depending on the vehicle. IE: a few weeks ago i did a 3" kit and 285 70 17s on the stock sr5 wheels and they rubbed the sway bar at full lock. every vehicle is made slightly different and thus amounts of rubbing can vary.

This is where the wheel width is going to be a problem. Wheel width requirement varies by tire make. For example, the Nitto Dura Grappler in a 285/70R17 is rated for a 7-9" wheel width.

Haha, it wasn't my intention to change things up. The reality is, people need to do their research and merely use this as a guide. I know that's your intention but you and I both know that people will take this as written in stone.

And to make things worse, if you compare a 285/70/17 BFG A/T to a Nitto Trail Grap you get 32.8 and 33.15 respectively.

I just hope people are more intelligent than I'm giving them credit for.

So I think I have figured out how to help some of you who have trouble with wheel offset and backspacing. I am working on some real world examples that I will post when completed. These will be common fitments with detailed explanations so they can be used as a template for future applications.

I think you have to look deeper into the tire brand specific dimensions. As mentioned above a Nitto vs BF Goodrich in 285/70/17. There doesn't seem to be uniformity in the tire industry with regard to the tire size specs.

Any way to add how big of a lift you'd need to run some of those bigger sizes? I might be purchasing a 4runner soon and been thinking about maybe doing a level kit and running a size or two larger than stock. Trying to figure out how that would look and how much it would cost.

It depends on many factors, especially wheel offset and BS. Some guys can run 285's with no lift. Some guys need to do major mods due to their choice of wheels. Too many variables to put on a simple chart. Just keep your wheels close to stock offset to keep rubbing mods to a minimum.

Just to confirm before I drop $850 on some tires: this chart says that 275/55/20 tires fit the stock wheels/stock everything? i.e. LTX MS2s, which are available in this size should fit on a totally stock vehicle without issue?

I have 275/55 r20 goodyear silent armors on a 2013 LE with everything stock and have never had a rub or any issue. I have 20,000 miles on them. They are discontinuing my tires but I will be buying the exact same size when the time comes. Makes the rig look like it should, drive great, probably lost a touch of mileage from the 245s but not much and really don't care. Hated the look of the 245s. Made it look peg-legged.
