Going to miss my 3rd Gen, but for good reason...

Welp, I'm going to miss my 3rd gen. It's been by far the best vehicle I have ever owned out of the 46 I've had in my 14 years of driving. I typically move through vehicles are a fast pace, and most of the time I have a variety of vehicles to select from. I would never keep a vehicle for more than 1.5years, no matter what.. For some reason, that all of us here understand, my 3rd gen (2000 sport) has been the single exception to that rule. I've had her for 7 years now, and it's been nothing but sheer pleasure.

Long story shortened up a bit. She now has 190kmi on her and still runs as good as the day I picked her up 7 years ago. Still looks great, not a drop of body rust (minimal on the undercarriage too, I'm pretty anal with maintenance etc..) All in all over those 7 years and 100kmi, she has cost me $600 in unscheduled maintenance. That's awesome.

I'm moving on from the good Ole gal, and handing her over to my mother to make room for bigger younger brother. The new sibling is sitting in the Ports of New York as we speak and will be ready for delivery in the next two weeks! I'm so excited! Here's and idea of what's to come... If it's half as good as my 3rd gen has been, she'll give me many years of excellent fun and memories!

The best part is, when my mom gets something else, I'll be getting the 3rd gen back!! ;)

He meant 46 cars. Why in Sam Hill would you own 46 cars in 14 years. How many wives have you gone through in that time? I mean, my wife/car ratio is, well, 0, so maybe I'm not a good reference, but dude, do you have some commitment issues you'd like to talk about?

We're here for you... well, actually we're not, but I'm sure there are some nice people in the 5th gen section that you can share your feelings with.:crybaby: :guitar3: <-(this is me, that's you on the left)
 
I'm with Nelsonmd and BTO. That thing is fugly. Get out!

46 cars--yikes. I've been diving for almost 40 years and I have only had a '68 Pontiac Le Mans, '73 Audi 100LS, '80 Corolla in US and a '79 Dodge Polara in Brazil, plus the cars in my sig. All have been kept for at least 7 years, plus I kept my mother's '74 Mercedes 230 going until 2004 as a kiddie college car.

Yeah I normally switch vehicles every couple years too but in 24 years of driving I have only had 15 vehicles and most of those were in the first 8 years. Going from $500 beater to $500 beater drive until it dies. Now motorcycles is a different story... have had over 40 of those but that is because I would buy basket cases then fix and sell them all through high school and a couple years after. Sometimes it took more then one to make a running one to sell.

Congrats on the purchase and hope it treats you as good as the 3rd Gen.
 
HAhaha. yes, 46. I have many at a time, and it's a never ending cycle. right now I have five, and I'm selling two and gaining one, so.. Once these things settle out a little bit, I'll be back looking for the next deal.

The new runner is very very nice. Granted, it may not be quite as rugged as a 3rd gen, but at the same time, I'm doing less offroading as the years progress. On top of that, NY is horrible with anything off pavement.

I was debating on getting a trail, but I want the comfort, especially since I'm selling my BMW 7 series.

Thanks for the wishes everyone. I was too hardcore for the 4th gen, but the 5th had me at hello.

Congrats!

I love my 3rd gen and its my 3rd one and just got the wife an 06 4runner, and I am a big fan of the 5th gens and its cool your keeping your old runner in the family!!
 
I just did a quick tally and counted 44 cars and I am probably missing a few. That too is in 14 years of driving.

I made a few bucks on some, but mostly lost my a$$. If I still had my highschool car (70' Chevelle) I would be rich!

Congats on the new Runner. Not feeling the Limited model, personally like the SR5 or Trail.
