Good 255|85R16 tire for snow traction?

I still have some more miles left in my BFG tires on the truck now, but I am looking to get into some 255s eventually. They don't use salt much around here, so driving in snow is very different than when I grew up (with salt). What is a good, all-around 255 tire, which also performs well in snow?

I haven't had my ST Maxx's in snow yet, so I can comment. To be completely honest, I don't think there is a really good option right now in that size for something that will be "good" in the snow.

Toyo MTs are pretty good. Never seen them in 255/85 but my buddy has them in 33x10.5r15 and they do pretty well for him. Probably 50 times better than the KM2s he had before.

In my opinion you can look at any tire review. tread patterns are the same regardless of size so a good snow tire in 285/75 will be a good snow tire in 255/85. Obviously there is difference in size and that will change its performance but on a tire vs tire basis it should give you a good idea

And most of all, someone's opinion of a tire especially in snow is entirely subjective. Some people suck at driving in the snow, some people don't, but either way the tire is probably catching the blame for it!

Not that size but same tire and it's close...I grew up in this kind of snow in Colorado driving a bug then an accord then a scout. I agree with [MENTION=82154]GSPRunner[/MENTION] on drivers ability and amount of common sense to be large factor. My tires have 5,000ish hard miles on them..This year was 3 trips to moab, 6 trips or so to choke cherry, 10 + to the high country and still performed like this in the snow. I know the tread is starting to round a little and loose its edge. I've aired them down 40+ times and driven them hard hard on some hot rock that wears them good. Going into winter I was expecting to pull trig on a winter set. Now I'm saving for something else. They are fine for me on the highway and kill it everywhere else including powder.

Looks familiar. Finally got my ST Maxx's in some packed snow and ice a couple weeks ago and I was pretty pleased.
