Good by my wife's 96 4Runner

Sad day last night she got T-Boned on drivers side. She is ok but very soar and stiff

It broke the upper ball joint punched two holes in the new tire. I looks like the upper A-Arm mount (or at least front bolt) is bent. Rocker panel is bent. And most likely the front door A pillar.

I have

new struts and shocks on it.
A new timing belt kit.
New exhaust.
Rear suspension rebuilt
Frame sandblasted and painted from front doors to rear bumper.
Spare parts out the wazoo......

Its going to be totaled. Engine and trans are sweet yet with 265,000 miles. 23mpg highway. My wife is devastated she's going to loose her TOY. I am too. Not to mention all the work I did to it since buying it last summer.

It got towed to my friends garage. I feel like buying it back for the parts and looking for a Runner that needs a power train or whatnot.

Positive thing is your wife is ok, and there are plenty more 4runner's out there.

On a side note, if you could get the good flares off of it, I would be interested in them, even if it isn't a complete set.

Looks like I'll be in contact with the adjuster Monday. Wonder what they will want for the salvage fee to buy it back.

Too many good parts on her and my wife is still crying about it being gone.......heck the new exhaust I put on in June still looks new. Not any carbon buildup in tail pipe at all. And theirs at least 5000 miles on that exhaust by now.

Glad your wife is ok, you should be able to buy it back with the salvage title for around $500. I did that when I totaled my Corolla. I took the $1500 stereo out & sold the car to my mechanic for $500 so he could rebuild it for his daughter.
You cant loose all of those parts!

Talked to adjuster. He said the salvage fee would be 10-15% of its value. So I'm figuring 500-800 for the buy back.

So. Looked at two today a black. Was told great condition. But seat ripped.

It had a rusty rocker panel. And no visible antifreeze in the rad or expansion tank. And a blue interior. We walked. The lot didn't even have any antifreeze to top off the rad and tank. So a 2hr and 30min drive to north jersey for nothing.

The wife decided that it will be a impossibly long time finding a black runner exactly like the wrecked one. And she asked about the silver one she sent me a picture of. We drive to it on the way home. (Near Boyertown PA)

It was perfect except one thing. It was only 2wd. We both missed that. Rats!

On a happy note. Our 04 Grand Cherokee got 19.4mpg in all that driving and traffic.

5 grand. As of now.

A little lower would be better. She now opened the color option to include white (pearl also I'm guessing) and silver. If the black in NJ wouldn't have had the blue interior I think we could have made a deal. The rad and the heating valve and heater core looked replaced and may be the reason for the Low coolant level. The rust was the front 4 inches of the rocker panel.

Just picked up a 97 limited with 120,500 miles on it. It's a little clapped out. But there is 1000 dollar wiggle room on value. It's fare value is 5200.

I showed up. It had no dipstick in the trans, no visible fluid in the rad, 1 qt low on engine oil.

No rust to speak of on body. Frame is great. Sunroof works. Broken antenna. Push button 4wd works. Didn't get to try the diff lock for the rear yet.

It needs shocks and tires. Wiper arms and blades and new sway bar links up front.

Our test drive was to pep boys to see how much fluids were needed to top everything off.

Drove it 100 miles home from north Philadelphia near Kraft factory.

It sucks. It was perfect, finally got it where I wanted it.

I do not like the plastic cladding the limited has. And it's gray and not black. But I couldn't pass on the milage. And the limiteds elocker rear.

It's not like I could swap doors, and fender flares, or I'd consider it. But the entire drivers side is trashed. No swapping.

I kept the 96 for parts.

I need to figure out what to do about the broken steering knuckle.

I do not want to buy one just so I can move it around.
