Good call...smart to walk. Sometimes they call back. Sometimes they don't. You offered WAY beyond a fair deal, so they're crazy.
I picked up a 2005 SE V8 4 years ago for $17 & 51k miles. You can buy those all day long here with 150k or less for <$14k, which leaves you with plenty of pocket change for your mods
Should be able to find an '06+ for much better than they're asking, but if financing is in the mix, unfortunately they can be a little less flexible.
