I really like the '99 but the miles are a bit high meaning things are beginning to wear out but if you don't put alot of miles on it per year it would be hard to pass it up with all the mods.

If it was me I'd pass on both and be patient and look a little longer for another '99 with much less miles.

That 97 looks like a good option. However if you can get the 2000 for 6k it maybe worth it. True it has more miles. But it is also a way rarer truck. You get the 99+ upgrades which are a huge bonus to me, 5 speed, sport edition, already lifted, supercharger (worth $1000 alone), TRD headers (worth about $400), plus the green looks bad ass. I think that if a truck is properly supercharged there is no reason it wouldn't last as long as a naturally aspirated truck.

That used to be my truck and when i sold it it was in awesome condition for the miles it had on it. I changed all the fluids in the diffs, transfer case and trans with lucas, ran mobil 1 5w30 in it, and put ngk plugs and wires in it right when i bought it. Its a great running truck but it did have an exhaust leak, the pilot bearing was beginning to make noise, which makes me believe that they forgot to replace it when they did the clutch, and the tires were bald and leaking air when i sold it so theyre probly to a point of being unsafe, i blew the front struts at the coast when those pics above were taken so they need to be replaced as well. If you can pick it up for 6k id say go for it, thats defintiely less then he has in it, and the truck is solid and i never had any issues with it, runs very strong, and actually does really great offroad, flexes great in the rear.it needs a little tlc but i think it would be worth fixing up. ultimately its up to you, it just depends on what youre going for, stock or something already somewhat built. ill post some better pics of it later from when i had cause i know his pics that he posted arent very detailed.

I am certian that the guy selling trailmix's old 4runner isnt going to go lower than 7000, but I am going to give it a try tonight. Here are some pics of the white 97 so you all can see the condition and can maybe tell me how much I should try and pay for it (I am thinking around 4800), here is the ad as well

The white one looks clean and miles are pretty darn low but how far away are you from arizona? that would be a big determining factor for me.

I live in El paso so it will be about 13 hours altogether (6 and 1/2 hours each way), I am willing to do about 8 hours each way to get my first 4runner if it is priced right and looks good. I have been wanting a 4runner for some time and I am overdue for a new vehicle.


I was wondering if you all could clarify somthing... I read somewhere that the 4runners/tacomas had engine problems, about 10% of 96-98 models and 5% of 99-2002. My brother also said a while back that he was going to get one but they had problems with the floating valve. My brother is very adiment about researching things before buying and besides these two I have heard nothing but good things about the engine.

The 3.0 motors had engine troubles and I believe the very early 96s had some head gasket issues, but they were recalled by Toyota. The 3.4 motors are wonderful and miles on these things are just a number.

Just tell him you know that he paid $7500 for it originally from the previous owner, trailmix, so you can negotiate him off that instead of $8500. I bet there aren't many people calling him on it. Tell him $6000 cash and I bet he may bite.

ya i mean i got way good money for that thing when i sold, but all it takes is for someone to fall in love with a vehicle and theyll pay whatever for it lol but 6k is reasonable money on it, and if you drove it for 6 months and decided you wanted something else you could get your money back out of it

ya like chris said i own a small car lot and this is a truck i bought about 2 months ago to drive for a while. runs and drives great, interior is very clean, worst part of the interior is the driver seat has a couple tears on the seam from sliding in and out of the truck. bodys in pretty good shape, has some rock chips on the hood (i think its got alot of highway miles on it) but it would be a good truck as well. The limiteds are pretty luxurious compared to the sr5's considering you get power seats, leather, etc. Im in helotes right outside san antonio so if you decide to come look at the green one youre welcome to come and drive the black one as well.
