Good fog lamps?

Anyone have recommendations for quality H3 fog lamps to use in the stock housings? I'm looking for yellow/amber style light to use in thick fog/heavy snowfall. Listed below is what I've tried so far.

These cheap H3's actually put out some pretty good light but I've burned through 3 bulbs with less than 10-15 total run-time hours on the lights.

Went for more longevity with LED bulbs. These appeared great when looking at the bumper but when driving I could barely tell the difference between on/off. They just don't throw much light out.

I'm considering these PIAA bulbs but they are pricey. Again worried about the longevity of the bulb. I only run my fogs when they are needed so I keep the run-time down but I'd be pissed if these burned up quick for that price.

I have these as my high/drl in my lexus with no issues for about 2 years now. I used them as fogs for a bit too before HID convert.

I agree with your assessment of the LEDs though, I have them now in my fogs and they look fantastic from outside but can't really tell when they're on from inside.

Stay away from the PIAA's. I just found my link from a while ago. Very un-impressed. Gave them away when I sold my bumper.

Okay I'll think again about the PIAAs. It's tough going on amazon reviews because every single bulb I look at there are at least a dozen reviews of how they burnt out in a month... Who knows if they were installed properly.

Reading through that thread looks like someone went with the Hella Yellow Stars which come in 55w, 85w and 100w versions. Might go that route depending on if I get much info on this thread.

I've had a totally different experience from [MENTION=116467]Rock_Rat[/MENTION]. I have the PIAA H3's in my 520's & they are amazing. I work nights & use them all the time driving home. I've had them in since 6/15. I can turn off my headlights & still drive at night with just the Ion Crystal Fogs.

I've had a totally different experience from [MENTION=116467]Rock_Rat[/MENTION]. I have the PIAA H3's in my 520's & they are amazing. I work nights & use them all the time driving home. I've had them in since 6/15. I can turn off my headlights & still drive at night with just the Ion Crystal Fogs.

Damn well I just pulled the trigger last night on the 100 watt yellow stars. At least I'm only out $6 a bulb. If they suck or burn out quickly I think the PIAAs are basically the only option left other than the Optilux but they are also made by Hella.

Remove your stock fog lights and install these flush mount LED fog lights (you might have to widen the hole). Wire them directly to your stock fog light wires.

Took a quick drive and they produce a lot of light but haven't driven in poor visibility conditions yet.

We'll see how they perform and how long they last.

Didn't bother. I feel like pics of headlights/fogs are like TV commercials for TVs bragging about picture quality... Worthless. Its only going to be as good as a camera (cell phone) can capture and your screen can display. At least for me i cant see a difference of the before/after shots of peoples lights on this formun. I can say they are by far the best of the bunch so far. And for $6 a bulb on amazon an easy experiment.

Hope they last.

Despite your search terms, those are NOT fog lights, they are at best flood lights, and have nothing like the beam pattern one hopes for from a good fog light: close-in beam coverage, with low vertical cut-off. These lights have zero cut-off, and will probably make things worse in a good fog by creating useless glare.

I just tried to get my lights out, got to be a secret of that.

Not really in the 3rd gens... it's one 10mm bolt and then they come off of the mount. The tiny screws though... they're another form of Hell.

I'm looking for a good projector LED to work in the mount but so far no good...

Quick stupid questions, how do you get the old bulbs out? I had poor visibility and couldn't tell how those come out.
