OK... I have a 95 4Runner V6 auto. I did the HG's about 6 months ago, it took me about 5 months to do it with only being able to work 1-3 hours a week. I followed the FSRM as close to the letter as I feel I possibly could, searched and read this forum for pointers to avoid common problems associated with this repair, and STILL I have the code 52 for the knock sensor. It purrs like a kitten at idle and "roars" like it should when I give it gas... but when I actually try to drive it...under load...the CEL pops up and its code 52. I rechecked the timing belt and it seems dead on, Ive reset the distributor and that doesn't help, and I got a new pigtail for the knock sensor, what else could it be? Vacuum leak? Bad gas? Short? Global warming? Aliens? Big Brother? WHAT?!?! Any suggestions would be helpful.

from what I have found it couldbe either. Your engine may be knocking and pinging or the sensor itself could be bad. I have heard of people remotely mounting the knock sensor, but doing so may have adverse effects on your engine. The KS is there to prevent the engine from destroying itself.My suggestion is to test the sensor and make sure it is functioning correctly. And if it is then tear into the engine.
