Hey guys,

Its getting close to winter here in the NE and I'm from Florida. I've heard that it is recommended to go out and warm your vehicle up before you leave for work. Does anyone know of a good remote start kit that I can buy? I was doing some searching and saw about 2 gajillion types so I was wondering if anyone has any info on these guys?

THanks for the help.

Me too. But in Socal I wouldn't have much of a reason to warm up the car. First reason I would get it is to show off. Second would be to cool down the inside of the car before getting in. Although, I don't think I would do it if I have to have another large clicker on my keychain.

Here in Chicago I can use it all the time. Why? Very hot and humid summers and cold winters. I don't have heated seats and I hate get into cold car in winter and wait for 15 minuts for some heat. I drive to work for about 30 minutes so half of that time I'm freazing and by the time I get there inside is nice and worm. That is why this is going to be next thing for my 4R..
Again if anyone find somthing interesting please post it here.
Thanks.

I've got the Factory TDS system on mine and it works great. I like its simplicity and small 3 button remote. I would definately reccomend talkin to your local dealer about getting one put it.

But, will that work on a 4th gen?

I have a Clifford alarm with remote start and it works great in my 4th generation. I can actually get out of my car, take out the keys and leave the car on when I have quick errands to run. It also has safety features which prevent the car from starting when the hood open and if somebody tries to enter the car without inserting the key, it'll shut the car down. I think you can buy the remote start without the alarm. The bad things about it is that you have to buy a kit to bypass Toyota's key security system (4th generation 4runner) and you have to leave a key in the bypass kit permanantly.

Go with a basic CODE ALARM alarm system with the remote start option. It will replace your factory key ring and still have all the features, except rear window roll up when not in the car. I have this system and it works great. BUT be sure to tell the installer that you want the better antenna with better range! The cost is the same for either antenna but the better range will allow you to start your car from about 1/4 mile away, through walls, etc. Let me know if you have any questions.

here's an alarm that has gotten pretty good reviews from guys over at yotatech. i gave them a call and they said we (4th gens) would need to get the bypass module, but that this alarm would work. for the price you pay, its a pretty good deal i think.

Get a vallet remote start! I haven't had problems with it yet...remote starts are always great to have. I always get looks when i start it...people are like 'whats that!? whos in there?'
The only problem me and my friend had was gettin the crank timing to work. Other than that, it was cool.

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?threadid=6278 check this one out 551R is very good.

I've had a Viper in my Civic for a few years now without any problems. I am going to get one for the 4runner as soon as funds allow.

Hi,

Don't know if you have bought your remote start yet but I thought I'd throw my 2 cents in. I have a Compustar remote start / alarm (http://compustar.org/) in my 99 Runner and it works great. I used to have it in my Integra for 3 years without a problem. With it's 1/4 mile transmitting range, paging, and multiple aux outputs, I think it's the best.
(you will need the bypass module for this one too though)

I found one that looks ok. I called few places and they all say that it is good. It is PRESTIGE APS-996A REMOTE START ALARM w/LCD. Cheapest price for everything with installation is 400$. On Ebay you can get it for 157$ with shipping + bypass for around 20$ so guy wants over 200$ for installation. Damn... I wish I could do it by myself. I'll let You know if I got it or not in about a week.

I'm new on this board, but I'm inheriting a 04 Sport Edition soon.

I work at best buy as a mobile installer.
I have the Clifford paging system in my bronco right now.

I installed a Remote start setup into a O4 Sequoia last month.
The remote start went in with ease however I didn't need to play with the power door locks. The guy had to shut down the remote start, to unlock his truck.

The Bypass is needed usually. You can also use your Valet Gray Key. That works perfectly fine. It's the Chip inside the key that's needed. That works for the remote start. However there are other modules out there that can learn the chip in the key. I don't usually recommend those though.

Did anyone get their remote start have any difficulty?
I know that the sequoia had this huge long list to figure out how to trigger the door locks and get it to unlock etc.

Ps. I am interested in The Aura Front Grille. To get rid of all that chrome stuff and get a mesh front. Is there anything cheaper?! That thing is like an left kidney for a darn mesh grille!

I'm also very interested in the hood scoop setup in making it functional. If not for forcing air, using it for engine cooling would be nice. It would need a small basin underneath like the WRX hood scoops to catch the rain water that ends up sloshing in.

Also, Does the 04 Sequioa/Tundra V8 K&N FIPK system work with the 04 4runner? It looks about the same, but I'm curious. The V8 Engine really has not too many parts out yet...
