Good remote start kit

OK, I'm confused...

First, what is a "Factory TDS"

After reading all these posts, it sounds like you need a bypass kit for 4Rs that have the key with a transponder chip, right? I have a 2001 SR5 and it is just a plain aftermarket key without a chip. Do I still need the bypass kit? :dunno:

Does anyone have a 3rd gen 4R with a remote start *and* with the RS3200 factory alarm? Can you use one remote or does it take two? Trying to figure out what to do next.

OK, I'm an idiot. :bonk: I figured out that TDS is "theft deterrent system", but I'm still confused. Is the RS3200 considered a TDS or is the key with a chip in it the TDS? If our 4R doesn't have coded keys, what part number and how much does it cost to get this added (ballpark)?

I just got an insurance quote and was told that the 4R has a high theft rate. This has effectively doubled the cost to insure the 4R from what we had been driving.

Somehow I have strayed this thread away from remote starters, but I'm still interested in adding one to the RS3200 in our 4R. :help:

I just found out something today. My parents closed the deal on a 2005 4Runner and the dealer has a guy come in that installs remote starters in Toyota vehicles. It is an Audiovox unit and has a seperate remote to go along with the keyless entry. The cost was $600 with everything. The best part is that it is covered in the warranty of the vehicle!!

The top of the line DEI one is like 480, and you don't need your old remote.

To answer your question about the TDS, If your SRS doesn't have the chip in the key, you don't need the bypass, what your installer does need to do is to disable your factory alarm when it remote starts. That disables the alarm.

I didn't disable it in the toyota sequoia, and the factory alarm is passive, so the alarm sets itself it after awhile if you forget. Then When I remote start it.... the alarm goes off but the car still starts up...and the horn honks while the car is running..

I recommend getting an aftermarket alarm. It works effectively. It has a shock sensor and your able to add other things to it.

A nice DEI Viper alarm, or even Clifford alarm. They have many accessories that you can add to it.

What Best Buy/circuit city install they would not void the warranty. They are certified not to void the warranty.

You even answered my next question, which is to find a remote starter that doesn't add a 2nd remote. If the new remote learns the old codes, that's fine. We just upgraded the RKE to the RS3200 before I decided I wanted the remote starter. :rolleye2:

Oh well. If it becomes too much of a hassle, I'll just learn to live without it. I've never owned a car with remote start and I just thought it would be great to have it on the 4R. May be more trouble than it's worth.

well you have to remember .. when you buy your remote start,... you want Keyless entry with it to eliminate your original keyfob


YOu can also request installation on getting the third auxillary butto to do your rear window
