What is the best remote starter out there, I have been looking around but pretty much all of them have there ups and downs.

I run compustar on 3 vehicles. No problem. Have the ability to upgrade to the drone service and use the phone as a remote for unlimited range.

I've been reading up about Advanced Key's system and it seems to have fairly good reviews. It entirely removes your need for a key as it converts the truck to push to start with remote start availability. It also auto locks the doors when you walk away and auto unlocks when you walk up

I second Compustar with Drone Mobile. Honestly, the quality of the install is more important than the brand or type of remote start.

I really have to agree with the part about the install being important...
I had a good alarm installed by a really budget shop once and it was basically useless when the car was broken into.
I installed alarm systems in cars for 10 years, its also coincidentally how I paid for college. In my opinion, there are 2 types of auto alarm systems in the world:
1: DEI (viper/rattler/avital etc)
2: Copies of DEI with less features (every other brand)
I do not trust any of the ripoff brands as I have removed them from a huge number of cars. You could say that my entire college education was funded from me removing crap alarms and remote starts and installing DEI systems. The installation of a junk alarm does not make up for it being junk, no matter how good the installer is. You would not believe the number of off-brand alarms that fail and cause the car to not start which then had to be removed in order to get the car working again. I would never ever put a second rate remote start in my own car, ever.
By the way, most people don't have DEI/Viper simply because the shop nearest to them can't get certified to install it. Don't believe any shop that tells you that their Autojunk 2000 is "exactly the same", it isn't. Also, it is not possible to DIY a DEI alarm because you must be a dealer to call them for support (another reason why people have swap-meet junk alarms in their cars). If you are an experienced installer, by all means go buy one on ebay and get the wiring diagram and transponder bypass module information from here: Car Alarm, Car Stereo, Mobile Video, and Cruise Control Info for Installers
But beware, as newer remote starts require a PC with proprietary software to interface with the transponder bypass module and there are about 50 wires that you will have to terminate correctly to get the system to work.

Best buy has some really good deals right now. Just remember best buy install quality can vary a huge amount between locations.

also never get something that doesn't have two way especially with a short range because you won't know if it went on or not.

Thanks guys I really could care less about the alarm, I don't have a problem with the install either. I agree with duffdog on install, I can not count how many alarms I have removed from peoples vehicles that were installed by places like best buy and circuit city or there good buddy whos put one in before. I'll check out the compustar
I put in a viper not too long back and haven't had too many complaints. Just so you can benchmark I was able to get a 2-way (no LCD and no security) from best buy for about 325 including install.
Beware of installing these yourself as they require special software for the bypass (already mentioned above) and also can void the warranty

I spent about 8 years installing remote start units for a few shops, and would never touch anything but DEI products (Viper, Python, etc...)
That being said, they've gone downhill recently, and nobody I used to work with runs them anymore.
Compustar seems to be the ticket now. I just purchased this one for my truck, it's priced lower than employee / accommodations pricing at the box stores.

DIY advice/what about this one?
My wife ordered me a MPC B-1488-435 for my birthday off Amazon. I know little about the different brands but have seen very little of this brand in particular, and to top it off, there are no reviews and it is not Prime eligible so I don't know if I can even send it back. It boasts many bells and whistles but I wanted to see if anyone has seen or owns one of these. The remotes themselves look to be solidly built, looks to be cast metal frames but who knows about the electronics?
Second question. How is installation in 4th gens in general? My main concern is accessing the wires--mpc provided a pretty detailed instructions (attached). Has anyone done a good writeup with pictures showing any panel removal needed for access and the location of the commonly-accessed locations for making connections? These instructions only give general locations. Thanks.

I'm definitely curious how it goes. I've been looking at Viper/Compustar for a while, but in my area there is only a Viper installer. Not sure I quite have the skill necessary to install one, but for the price of the compustar system on ebay, it's tempting to try.
