Good Replacement for Revos

So did you have the Revo 2s, and if so, how well did they perform for you and what was the longevity?

I’ve had both the original Revo and the Revo2. When I sold the 4Runner that had the Revo2’s on them they had about 40,000 miles on them. I would have needed to replace them that fall... about 45,000 as they would not have been good enough for a Michigan winter. I also, didn’t think they handled as good as the original. The Revo3’s are different. They handle the water and snow really well and are quiet (for an A/T). One of the reason’s I didn’t like the BFG’s I had in the past is I didn’t like how they handled in the heavy rain or snow. These are definitely better and the best Revo to date IMO. Time will tell on wear.

Geolandar or Revo 3?

Well for me I think it's come down now to two possible A/T tires, the Geolandar G015 & the Revo 3. The Geo is a proven, good all-around tire that is very civilized on pavement, but also does fairly well off-road (and very well in snow as it carries the venerable Snowflake symbol). Many, many people like it, including a number of people who work at Discount Tire. I know I couldn't go too far wrong with the Geo, all things considered.

I did strongly consider the Cooper AT3 as it gets extremely glowing reviews from professional off-roaders. If I took the 4R off-road as much as I used to, this would probably be the tire. I think compared to the Geo, it is not quite as civilized on the road (noise & wear).

If the Revo 2 had been a decent wearing tire (as the Revo 1 was) I wouldn't even be looking for another tire! Of course, the main drawback to the Revo 3 is it being brand-spanking new. Bridgestone is saying wonderful things about it, but I haven't found any professional reviews yet.

April 30 is the end of the Yokohama sale, so I need to decide by then. I get my wife's car tires rotated Monday and I will talk to the DT people about these two tires . . .

Interesting that you've arrived at the same place . . . I guess it's not so much of a stretch, considering that I'm sure there are a lot of us who want a civilized on-road tire coupled with good wear and decent off-road abilities.

After I talk with the Discount Tire people today about them both, I will report what their input was.

Discount Tire person can't recommend the Revo 3

Talked to an older Discount Tire person at the store today (getting my wife's tires rotated) and they said they could not recommend the Revo 3 because there just wasn't any data on them yet. He said they could recommend the Geo G015 since there is lots of owner data on it (including his nephew) and it is a well proven good performer. He said they still don't have the Revo 3 in stock, but they can get them on order.

He acknowledged that the Revo 2 wasn't as good a performer as the Revo 1, and that people were moving away from the Revo because of this. He also confirmed that the two tires speced out basically the same, except the Geo carries the snowflake and the Revo 3 (for some reason) does not.

So unless someone can convince me otherwise, which I think would be a challenging task at this point, I think I am settled on the Geo - it just makes the most sense. (and will save about $150 for the set)

BTW - I'm also noticing that many put Yokohamas on their trucks. For instance a roofer showed up here today with YoKo's on his pickup and said his company really liked them, no issues, etc. He's not the only one I've talked to with YocKo's that really liked them. Granted, this is a different tire than the Geo, but it seems like not many work trucks I've seen go with a Bridgestone. I know it's anecdotal at best, but there it is . . .

Here in California the snowflake/mountain symbol means quite a bit. Up in the Sierra mountains the California Highway Patrol will set up stops when chain control is in effect (usually after a recent snow). R1 control means you either need chains on your tires or 4wd drive vehicle to continue on. R2 means you need a 4wd vehicle and chains UNLESS you have that snowflake/mountain symbol on your tires.

BTW just had the Falken Wikdpeak AT3s mounted on 4Runner yesterday. So far the did well in the light rain we had yesterday and seem fairly quiet compared to my old Nitto Terras. I'll have to check out highway speed more and snow before I can really tell though.

I just looked and can't find a snowflake symbol on my Revo 2s. It does say "M + S" but the snowflake is not to be found (unless they did a superior job of hiding it somewhere)!

BTW - I sent an online message to Bridgestone customer service asking them why I should buy the Revo 3s after the experience with the Revo 2s, and why they are better than the Geolandar. It will be interesting to see if they respond and what they say . . .

Never had a problem with revos on both mine & I handed down them to son's 05 ! That said just bought coopertires at3 p285s for 11' & will be buying for 05 when ready ! But I never had an issue with revos . I looked at revo 3s before but looked like only lt & no p rated tire.

I loved the Revo 1s and had two sets that ran over 50k miles. So you had the Revo 2s and liked them?

Both mine are 285s so .... yes always rotated them & kept up air pressure , still have maybe 10k left on son's 05 & were on my 11' for 45k ! But like I said have the coop at3s on now just for a change .

Got the Geos - better ride than Revo!

Had Discount Tire put on 4 Geo G015s today and am real pleased how much improved the ride is! I'm now convinced that the old Revo 2s had been giving me a fairly harsh ride for awhile.

I only got about 37,000 out of the old Revo 2s, which is by far the worst since I've been putting Revos on (3rd set). The Revo 1s all got well over 50k miles with one set going over 55k. I was already into between 4 and 3/32nds tread on these tires, so there's no way they'd of made 50k!

And I'm convinced that a good deal of the harshness of ride was due to the tires. I replaced the old Xreas system a couple months back with Bilstein 5100s, and the combination of the stiffer shocks and the worn-out Revo 2s made the ride pretty annoying when going over cracks in the road and even just man hole covers. Very annoying indeed.

I don't remember anything approaching that harshness of ride with the previous version of the Revo - not at all. Perhaps Bridgestone has corrected these issues with the Revo 3, but I just couldn't take a chance with them being so new and next to no user data on them. The Revo 2 has slipped way down on the customer feedback ratings on TireRack.com.

So I am initially happy with the Geos. The installer at DT said he was likely going with them when he puts new on his truck soon - my anecdotal evidence report is a lot of people like these tires, and now that includes ME!!!

Yup - very smooth tire for an all terrain! I've had the Geos for just a few weeks now, but have only done in-town driving. They haven't sent up any red flags for me and seem to be everything various people have said - quiet, tracks & rides well, etc. This summer I'll probably get 'em off road, but from all the reviews & videos I've seen, I'm sure they'll do what I need them to do.

And they don't look quite as aggressive as the Revo (which looked just mildly aggressive), but at this point in life that don't matter much!

I just looked on Tirerack and the same two reviews for the Revo 3 as I saw on there weeks ago are still the only ones there. I suspect that many are steering clear (pun intended) of the new Revo because of the longevity issue which showed up in poor wear ratings on the older version.

Coming from a 3rd gen, I had both the Revo and Revo 2 on my rig that was used as a DD until 2013. The Revo 1 was far superior to the Revo 2 except in rain, where the latter was very good. The Revo 2's biggest problem, other than the longevity, was its awful characteristics in mud. Picture a young deer on a frozen lake trying to get anywhere quickly.

It was a toss up last year between the Geolander and the Discovery A/T3. I went with the latter thanks to Discount Tire's blow out 4th of July sale last year. Couldn't be happier.

I’ve also had Revo 1, Revo 2 and now the Revo 3. After 2000 miles with the Revo 3’s, I will say these are by far the best version yet. In the past month they have seen 6-8 inches of heavy wet slushy snow and also some very heavy rains. They did fantastic in both conditions. They ride smooth and are quiet. Time will tell on the mileage, but I at this point, I would buy again without hesitation.

Thank you! Over the years I’ve had both Revo 1 & 2 on 4Runners, original BFG’s and Duratracs on a Tacoma, and now Revo 3’s on this 4Runner. So far these are my favorite. As I’ve shared previously, time will tell on wear, but all else has been improved in these tires. I suspect they will go way up on the Tire Rack rating scale as folks give them a try. I’ll keep reporting the progress with mine.
