Good Video...Radical Islam

Have you not been friends with a normal Muslim? Look around. You'll find your local software engineer or doctor is probably Muslim.

Funny but no, none out of many software engineers I know are muslims.
Indian doctors plenty around here but I don`t think they muslims.

Except those pushing sharia also did the same thing to them. Afghanistan in the 50's and 60's, at least in the cities, was damn near civilized.

The Soviets came in pushing communism, which birthed (with our - US - help, sadly) the mujahideen. The Soviet / muj fighting and eventual stalemate & withdrawal destabilized the country and weakened the central government enough that they were no longer able to provide safety/security to the outlying provinces. Which in turn created a power vacuum there, which was filled by former muj warlords with nobody to fight anymore, who hung their hat on whatever ideology was able to fill their ranks - and bank accounts - conveniently.

Eventually they amassed enough strength (through coalescing into a thing called the Taliban) that they became a military/governmental force of their own and basically took the country over except for a small portion in the Panjshir.

They brought Sharia with them. The populace didn't have much choice in the matter because they couldn't count on the weak central government or military to protect them from a superior force. To them it was comply or die (along with their entire family).

Sound familiar? Because it's basically what happened in Iraq when we left.

Anyhow, if you want a super depressing Friday night read, hop on over to Google image search and look up what Afghanistan used to be like before the late 70's. Same with Iraq before 2003. Or better yet google the "Paris of the Middle East" to see what Beirut used to be like before the 1980's.

It's not about protecting their way of life. Oh, to have such luxury! These people are fighting for survival, caught between their oppressors and the just as deadly munitions of those who are attempting to liberate them from said oppression. They, much like you or I, will do whatever it takes to ensure the survival of their family.

They know that betting on Daesh whilst occupied by Daesh will give them a higher probability of surviving said occupation. And when the central government liberates them, great, boo Daesh and such, long live the central government. But until that happens, they're going to go with the winning team because in this case, going for the other team will get you and your family slaughtered.

Sorry you wrote all this but it`s a load of BS.
I spent 18 month in Afghanistan during late 80th. I have my opinion formed by interaction with them, not some BS fed by propaganda machine.

You mean his friends. But yeah, not much else I could say. He knows some weird ass muslims.

I think I actually know the weirdest Muslims. Lost touch with them but, no joke they were raising their children Christian. They said there is no place for Islam in the modern world. My jaw hit the floor when I heard that. I am pretty sure I actually had a moment or two of slack jaw. I used to clean their aquarium and came to clean it the first Christmas season and there low and behold was a Christmas tree with presents, candy canes, manger with baby Jesus on the side and star on top. Did know what to say but merry Christmas.

Well, "they" are not crazies...not by a long shot...they do NOT belong in a psychiatric hospital...for one to say that they are crazies is a huge misunderstanding of their "cause" and hide their intentions. Let's be honest here.

"They" are Sunni's. Sunni's are ALL about Islam. In fact, they are "true" believers that they ARE the direct descendants of Muhammad. In Sunni's eyes, Shi'ites are fakes and also part of the horrible disease of the world just like Westerners. (And this is WHY you have "Muslim on Muslim" crimes.)

So, again, it is about a particular Islam sect...and this is NOT a minority sect either. Sunnis make up 80-90% of Muslims i think. Islam is very relevant to the problem at hand.

Do you disagree with what i wrote? If so, how?

Disagree, no, i do not

when i say 'crazies', understand that i am not using that in a clinical sense.

yes, i do understand, as a Sunni myself, that Islam is part of it. But it also must be said, that it isnt the 80-90% that is part of this ridiculousness, it is those who are taking the stance of these who want to act this way. But your point has merit.

True Believer is a matter of opinion. I do all that is required of me as a practicing Muslim, yet i dont feel the need, nor do i read in the 'instructions' that i have to go kill everyone else who may not believe the way i do...

A few here asked...the video gave no solution. But, I ask...WHY is it that it is up to the Westerners only to have a solution to a Muslim problem? It is a Muslim problem in your own words because you tell me that most Muslims are good folks...just a few bad apples, right? But, remember, a few bad apples among 80-90% of Muslims is...A LOT OF BAD ROTTEN APPLES!!

Where are all the Sunni's standing up and criticizing the violence? I see little blips for media exposure after horrific attacks but back to regular business by next day at mosques.

Where are all the Sunni's standing up and pointing out the "bad" seeds? I cannot recall ONE incident where a mosque or Sunni's reported a "radical(s)" to the police/govt. I have a day job so I may have missed the news where a mosque or Sunni's reported on another Sunni's to the FBI. Show me ONE incident.

Muslims want less bigotry or hatred from others? Show us that you guys truly want to preserve peace and willing to "give up" a radical thinker/doer for the sake of the great good of society where live and breath.

Not all Sunni's are bad...true...but in recent terrorists attacks and horrific acts of violence against the "West," all bad are Sunni's.

Afghanistan has changed significantly since the late 80's. The Sharia you knew and thought was strict in the 80's is soft in comparison to the brand the Taliban brought with them and began enforcing with their Sharia Courts in the provinces.

"AT LEAST IN THE CITIES" .... Hey dude if you knew anything about Afghanistan you would know there is no power in the cities. The cities in Afghanistan do not represent the country or the people of that nation in the same way western cities (going back to the Romans) work. Over there the villages out in the countryside represent the nation, including the majority of the economic, political, military and religious power. Those villages have kept the same strict Sharia law going back many hundreds of years.

Agreed. His comment is Bullshit based on ignorance..

Read any history book about Islam in the middle East people. You will find that NO the West did not bring Sharia to Islam. The very idea is preposterous.

And if you don't have access to books or a college world history class then just go Wikipedia and read a bit about Pakistan. It is a strict Sharia law country, only about 60 years old. The West didn't give them Sharia, democracy did. Through the democratic process they enacted strict religious laws that force all men and women to submit to Sharia law. That is how Pakistan became a Sharia democracy.

No real mystery.

Show me where I said the west brought Sharia. I said we empowered (armed, trained, funded) the muj portions of whom eventually became the Taliban who in their own words "made safe the lives and property of millions of people" in Afghanistan through stricter enforcement of Sharia (quote of Sher Muhammad Abbas Stanekzai in Peter Marsden's book on the Taliban published in 1994).

What I failed to include is that the Taliban brought "their brand" of Sharia with them vs. sharia as a whole. I'm not going to go back and edit it, but understand what I meant was that they brought a much more strict flavor and enforcement of Sharia than had been in place prior to their arrival in the majority of the country.

And I'm aware that the cities aren't the base of power in the country. What I said was that the cities were civilized pre-Taliban.

I'm sure you have plenty of insight as a Muslim who served but that doesn't make your explanation of history accurate. I'm a non Muslim who served. There are many veterans in this forum.

So after reading BrianSD_42's post above, I just reread the whole darn thread as I was trying to get clarification on who had posted in this thread, were a vet/currently serving in the US military and were also of the Muslim faith.

Looks to me, from what I have read here, that manofpeace not mckennar posted that he is a Muslim that has served......while it may not be important to the context of the opinions posted in this thread, it is misleading as the thread continues forward. Maybe I missed that mckennar posted that he is a Muslim?

I think, IMHO, that the solution asked about in the video is a seperate issue than the solution that Muslims have to come up with themselves.

The west wants to find a solution, both in preventing these attacks from occurring in western places, but also, as some western governments tend to want to do, find a solution to it as a whole as they seem to feel the need to control places they deem need controlling. Hence the arguments about appeasement vs bombing vs politicing.

The solution muslims must be responsible for is more about either containment of these issues within each individual country-as anyplace that wants some sort of civil turn over needs to be allowed to deal with such, just as the USA dealt with its own hundreds of years ago. Also, i agree with you, muslims living in other non-Islamic based countries need to stand up and be counted to either influence those who want to try and start these issues there, and sway those ideas out, or have the rule of law alerted to their existance so that we all dont suffer.

Lastly, I have also been looking for, and found on many many occations, other muslims who stand up and speak out against this. they are out there, and they are willing to be heard. The problem is, its not as sensational to listen to them speak out as it is for News TV ratings to just show explosions and scenes of war, followed by politicians who want to talk tough about what to do about it.

by comparison, does every christian need to stand up and speak out about any individual or group who goes out and kills an abortion dr. and claim its religiously their duty? Does every white person need to jump up and speak out about any and every instance of racism? does every 'good' police officer need to stand up and shout about any and every 'bad' officer caught doing something illegal or killing someone wrongly? I repeat, being PC about this issue isnt really necessary. Its a human issue when one group of people feel the need to simply kill innocent other-people. job, religion, race shouldnt be an issue. unfortunately it is also a human thing to choose a side and only see that side as in the right. Maybe just the smart people need to stand up, on every side, and offer what some solutions could work...

maybe the positive is, we, on this forum, can actually have a conversation about these things, agree/disagree/whatever. its those who cannot actually see the mindset to ONLY have a conversation are the ones we should deem problematic

ok ok...back to 4runner stuff...

I agree with you...EVERYONE has a duty to call out the bad seeds. There are such cases that you hear about eveyday too. You haven't heard about a white/black/yellow guy/gal reporting someone he knows to police about violence related incident? I have...almost everyday.

But back to Muslim community...I would imagine that IF a Muslim speaks out amid reports someone, the liberal media will be all over it. You disagree? MSNBC or CNN would ignore that?

Again, I ask for ONE case....

Well just to make a point all the news networks called what the IRA was doing radical Christian extremism. Many many Christian churches spoke against it. Many Christian citizens in America and in Europe spoke out against it. It was publicized. Now I agree that the media has changed dramatically over the last 30 years. That is 100% on the shoulders of the people. No blaming the change on anything else. It's not corporations government or others. They media makes its money on advertising based on number of viewers. If you take 2 stations and compare them. One has 2 million viewers a day and one has 6 million. The one that has 6 million viewers is going to get paid more from advertisers. If we as people stop watching these channels then they will see a decline in advertising money and start to ask why. This is not a quick fix. It could and probably will take years to right the ship. But it has to start with the people watching the media. Especially on TV. One thing that actually makes a difference is writing the manufacturers of the products being advertised and letting them know you do not approve of the channels they are advertising through. It takes millions of letters written but it's going right to the horses mouth. 300 million people in America alone it shouldn't be that hard to get 5 million to start writing emails and letters.

Speak out AFTER the event...and then back to normal business next day. What have they done about it to PREVENT an attack? Have they identify extremists in their mosque?

Still waiting for that ONE example....

Come on, they will never give up one of their own, also lying to infidels is encouraged.

Let's follow you thought through for a second..............if the plot was successfully "foiled" and the person(s) who helped to stop the incident was/were mentioned in public, do you think they would ever be effective again in "discovering" another plot? What about if they requested to be left anonymous? I don't get what answer you are looking for if they were successful in stopping a terrorist incident.

EDIT:example, the underwear bomber's father?

so you ask for examples, i show some, and then you say no, you want 'other' examples...

:fencing:

hey man...its not my job to change your mind on a topic that is very complex and has several layers to it. your POV is yours, and i respect that. i have plenty of conversations with plenty of other muslims who also hate the behavior and example of terror minded radicals BEFORE, during, and after these types of events...if i cant pull those examples from here in my basement...enough to get you to see my point...then so be it.

enjoy your weekend sir.

Is someone holding a gun to your head to make you go to the OFF-TOPIC section and reading a SPECIFIC titled thread? You must be new here...oh wait.... :infidel:

Ha, no, but of your 17,000 posts on this forum, I bet 2 are related to Toyota's. :grouphug:
