Goodbye Chevrolet

Well I had a 2001 BMW 530i great car drove real nice high maintenance though and it cost to keep it up, so I got a 03 T4R V6 and at first I was yeah its ok but I knew it was reliable, but now I love it.
So now we get to the Chevrolet I have always owned a Chevy except for my first car a 1965 Ford custom since then Chevy well the last 4 Chevys all have had cooling problems including are current Monte Carlo.
Well I just found out that there Dexicool fluid has been and is the cause of all the cooling problems I have had and have now.
So to sum this all up I now want to trade my chevy in (wont get $#it for it) and get a second T4R, this just goes to show you how well they are built and why the american auto industry went belly up but is making a come back but a little to late IMOA.

Yup, my dad was a Chevy guy when I was growing up so it pains me to say it but the crap they put out in the 80's and 90's was just embarrassing to the American automotive industry. I have no idea if their reliability is getting better or not but the interior fit and finish is still too far behind the competition. Even behind Ford and Dodge IMO. It's just too little too late IMO. I won't rule out ever buying another Chevy but they're going to have to win me back. And I'm going to doubt them every step of the way.

I just got rid of a Silverado with the 5.3L and original trans in it that had 185,000 miles, still ran great. No probs other than regular maintenance. Probably should have kept it as a 3rd vehicle. My wife drives an 05 Tahoe that she loves. Only 85K on it but same motor as the Silverado had. You guys may be talking about Chevy cars only. I have had good experience with their trucks.

I had a 2005 Silverado with the 5.3 and the torque converter went out at 65K miles. Started researching and found it was fairly common. I got it repaired, drove it for a year and traded it. I think that was my last Chevy.

Had an 89 GMC Jimmy. Started to rot. Had a 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo V8 for two years, had electrical gremlins. Bought my 97 SR5 still have it and in February bought a 2011 SR5. You know where my loyalty now stands.

Well I just found out that there Dexicool fluid has been and is the cause of all the cooling problems I have had and have now.

Dexcook is only part of the problem. The other problem with GM engines (most V6's and several of their V8s) was the intake manifold gasket material. They were seeing over a 10% failure rate for vehicles over 100k miles. This would cause antifreeze to leak into the oil and if not caught in time...destroy your engine.

For years I was a GM man (actually Chevy). Loved the 60's GM muscle cars (still do). GM's quality started on their 30 year downward slide in the early 70's. My last GM product was a 84 GMC S-15. After 120k miles it was junk. I spent thousands in repairs to get it that far. GM needs to change. And until they do....they are doomed.

I had a 93 full size 2-door blazer. Great truck (bought it for $2500) for what I had in it. The engine was a 35k mile rebuilt. The truck itself was lacking power, drank gas like a demon, and everything inside worked, just not well. Never had many issues with it, but didn't really drive it for long either. Only had it about 8 months.
